Movie Review: One Of The Best Pink Panther Films

In 1976,after the success of 1975's"Return Of The Pink Panther",Peter Sellers and Blake Edwards,teamed up again,to deliever one of the funniest Pink Panther Films.In"Strikes Again"Cheif Inspector Dreyfus(Herbert Lom),has totally gone insane.He breaks out of A mental hospital, assembles A team of criminal masterminds,kidnaps A professor,and builds A device that can make whole countries vanish.It's up to Clouseau(Peter Sellers)to try,and stop Dreyfus.As usual Clouseau proves himself to be A klutzy,incompetent,fool.There are so many funny moments,in this film;A hilarious karate fight with Kato(Burt Kwouk),The Interaggation scene with the professor's staff(Where Clouseau destroys A priceless Piano,and shoots his superior in the rear.),A Funny Motel romp(with A sexy,yet confused,Russian Agent(Leslie Anne Down),A humorous scene with Clouseau trying to cross A Castle Moat;quite unsuccessfully,and there's even A scene making fun of former President Gerald Ford.It's hard to put into words,all the humor in this movie;Sellers is insane in this movie.This,Along with"A Shot In The DarK",is prehaps the funniest Pink Panther movie.5 stars,you are guaranteed to laugh your butt off,at this movie.Classic Peter Sellars/classic Blake Edwards.
Summary of PINK PANTHER STRIKES AGAIN, THE (DVD MOVIE)
Peter Sellers is "in top form" (Cue) in this zany adventure that finds the accident-prone InspectorClouseau using some of his most outlandish disguises ever. With "ferociously funny karate encounters" (Time) with the enigmatic Cato (Burt Kwouk) and dangerous intrigue with a sexy Russian spy (Lesley-Anne Down), this hysterical comedy will strike your funny bone! Driven over the edge by the maddeningly incompetent Clouseau, former Chief Inspector Dreyfus (Herbert Lom) commandeers a doomsday device and threatens to destroy the world. His only demand? Clouseau's death! But thanks to his nemesis' dumb luck, the assassins hired to kill him can't seem to finish the job - although Clouseau may do it himself by tripping over his own two feet!The fourth Pink Panther film with Peter Sellers and directed by Blake Edwards is easily the most over-the-top, but it's still pretty entertaining. The story finds Clouseau's former boss (Herbert Lom) totally insane after years of enduring the bumbling detective, and sequestered in a castle with a death-ray gun. Clouseau has to stop him from using the weapon on the world, and his efforts to do so make for some choice, Edwards-style slapstick. The quotient of destruction (a Clouseau staple) is higher than average, but there is also real wit--particularly in a final scene where Lom re-creates his most famous role as the monster from the 1962 Phantom of the Opera. --Tom Keogh
