Movie Reviews of Out of Africa

Movie Review: Favorite Movie of All Time
Summary: 5 Stars

After seeing this movie for the first time a month ago i must say it is now my favorite movie and have seen it many times since. This being probably because i have been to Kenya twice. This true story is great and the cinematography is excellent, especially of the scenes of the land with the train and my favorite scene with the plane flying. The score throughout the movie is great and got the well deserved oscar. The story is excellent about her life as a coffee farmer and her encounters with the natives she learns to love and also her love for a man. Meryl Streep and Robert Redford are fine actors and did a great job of portraying the real people. I would recommend this highly and is a true story which adds a lot for me.

Movie Review: Breathtaking
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the best romantic movies I have ever seen. It touches on the need to be independent but at the same time wanting companionship and closeness with another. I can say that I found this to be somehow feminist especially in the way karen Blixen handled her life and went against what might have been considered proper female behaivor at that time. She followed her heart and regardless of what was thrown her way she handled it with dignity and strength. The part of the movie that I particularly liked was when marriage was being discussed with robert redford's character and he says that a piece of paper will not make him love her more(my feelings exactly). i loved this movie and will definitely watch it again.

Movie Review: Out Of Africa
Summary: 5 Stars

This marvelous movie Is and will be forever a classic. Sydney Pollack plus Streep, Redford and the music of John Barry make it so. The finishing touch was the portion of A. E. Houseman's "To An Athlete Dying Young" spoken by Karen over Denys' grave. A most moving and touching story. I have had it for years and it wears well. I saw it for the 1st time on my 50" Plasma. Scrumptious. I have had the Blu-ray edition for just a few days. I thought this movie could not be improved. I was wrong. The Blu-ray is much more vivid, the scenery is more alive, and John Barry's score takes on a new even more luscious sound.

Movie Review: In my top five movies of all time
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie had all the ingredients to make it perfect for me: a great story, two of my favorite actors, a fantastic score, and a stunning setting. But my review is actually of the DVD version. This is a fantastic DVD for those who loved the movie. Sydney Pollack gives a great narrative in the director's commentary sound selection. There are also great extras with interviews with the cast and a great bonus with Karen Blixen's biographer. Having read every book ever written by and about Isak Dinesen and Denys Finch-Hatton, I really loved the extra features of the DVD version.

Movie Review: A Classic
Summary: 5 Stars

If the majestic scenery doesn't transport you into another realm of wonderment
and awe, then the John Barry score most certainly will. This is a film for the ages. In spite of the harsh criticism heaped upon both Streep and Redford for their accents, they give monumental performances. The seven Academy Awards bestowed on this timeless classic were not nearly enough. The film comes as close to cinematic perfection as one can get.Lawrence of Arabia and Out of Africa are truly epics in a category by themselves. We may never see the likes again of this type of film-making.
