Movie Reviews of Out of Africa

Movie Review: Possibly the most beautiful film ever made
Summary: 5 Stars

Reading some of the criticism of this film, I wonder if they saw the same movie that I did. This is an absolute masterpiece in every sense of the word! The photography is stunning, with virtually every scene presenting a sumptuous feast for the eyes. The soundtrack is heartfelt and magnificently blended into the story. The actors are superb, with notable performances by Meryl Streep, Klaus Maria Brandauer and Michael Kitchen. One of the deepest performances is turned in by Malick Bowens as Farah - so wonderfully sensitive. Those who knock Robert Redford playing a Brit would have also undoubtedly knocked him should he have affected a British accent. His performance, to me, was magnificently understated and on target. I find that a lot of guys have trouble with Redford - undoubtedly insecure egos.

Sydney Pollack deserves to have his face carved on the Mt. Rushmore of filmmaking for this timeless, romantic and deeply moving motion picture.

Movie Review: Out of Africa Review
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a movie about a woman named Karen Blixen (played by Meryl Streep who is wonderful) who is married to a man who is a womanizer. They are from Denmark, and he married her for her money, and she married him for his title. She was in love with his brother. Together they bought a plantation in Kenya, and begin to raise coffee, which had never been done there before. He is never home, always off hunting, and she falls in love with the land and its people. She is a very strong woman, and eventually falls in love with another man (Robert Redford). The scenic value of this movie is out of this world, it is breathtakingly beautiful. The acting is good, Meryl Streep & Robert Redford, what else would you expect. No nudity, no language, but I don't think kids would stick with it, it's too long. It's not an 'exciting' movie, per se, it's a long romantic drama. Oh, and did I mention it is a true story.

Movie Review: The Best Romantic Epic Ever (in my opinion).
Summary: 5 Stars

I just saw, "Out of Africa" yesterday, and I thought it was great. It is an epic romance, and it needed to be epic in order to have the profound effect that it did. Ordinary length films don't ever come close to having this effect because the viewer doesn't have the time to experience enough with the characters because the film only last two hours--tops, yet, "Out of Africa" follows through. There is a line I think was great and it goes as such: "I guess that's why the world is round, so you can never see too far ahead down the road." I may have paraphrased that a little because I am recalling from memory. There is a lot of substance in this film. Plenty of great lines and situations. This is a timeless story because the emotions and struggles are common. Plus, Meryl Streep is really, really hot. She is so gorgeous and her fake Danish accent was pretty believable. SEE THIS ONE! It's a classic.

Movie Review: Impressive Portrayal of Kenya's Finest
Summary: 5 Stars

Finally... a film that displays real African beauty - beyond the Safari. OUT OF AFRICA gives viewers a glimpse of the beautiful Kenyan tribes, communities, farms, and scenery.

Karen (Meryl Streep) is a Danish woman of means who plots to marry a friend in an arrangement of convenience. She abandons the confines of her home in Denmark and ventures across the globe and makes a new home in Nairobi, Kenya. She adapts to the people, culture and new life.

Along the way, she meets and falls in love with Denys (Robert Redford)... who wouldn't? This handsome, free-spirited hunter broadens Karen's view of the horizon and helps her soar to higher heights. She learns to see beyond her British ways to accept others, live simply and love freely.

The performances by the supporting African actors/community are great also. I loved this film!

Movie Review: MAGNIFICIENT NOSTALGIC ROMANCE
Summary: 5 Stars

Out of Africa
The story of a Danish woman (Meryl Streep) who finds herself running a farm in Africa from 1913 after her husband (Klaus Maria Brandauer) decides to opt out for the life of a hunter. The first half is brilliantly
paced and immaculately acted, but the greatness rather drifts away in the second half, somewhat aided by Robert Redford, who just doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the film. Streep and her Danish accent are amazing, while Brandauer, Suzanna Hamilton, Michael Kitchen and Michael Gough offer really first-rate support. Intelligently scripted and beautifully shot on location by David Watkin, Out of Africa proves a moving, stimulating and entertaining experience. Winner of SEVEN ACADEMY AWARDS, including Best Film and Best Director.
