Movie Reviews of Out of AfricaMovie Review: Great Movie! Summary: 5 Stars
Out of Africa was great. I liked the history and the plot. Robert Redford was very good.
By the way - if you ever watch "Australia" with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, you will regret it. This movie is almost exactly the same as Australia and this one blows Australia out of the water. It was a joke at times. I'd see something and remember the almost exact same sequence in Australia. Pretty pathetic, I think, on Australia's part.
Definitely recommmend this movie.
Movie Review: Delight in "Out of Africa" Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted to update my movie collection by buying a DVD to replace my VHS tape of "Out of Africa." The quality is much better and nicer to watch. In addition, there are "extra features" on the DVD that were added and are interesting to see. For example, Meryl Streep talks about making the movie. Fascinating stuff. What an elegant movie with gorgeous photography and an amazing story of interesting people living in interesting times.
Movie Review: Powerful, emotional story. Summary: 5 Stars
I saw Out of Africa once when it first came out (1984, 1985?). The emotions, imagery, and story have stayed with me for the past 26 years. I just rewatched it after all this time, and the movie has staying power. It is still a magnificent production.
There are many movies that I saw in the 80's that I liked then, but would not enjoy the same today. Not so with Out of Africa. This is one of my all time favorite movies.
Movie Review: Breaks but strengthens your heart Summary: 5 Stars
What doesn't kill us makes us stronger... The tale of Karen Blixen is enhanced with a beautiful performance by Meryl Streep. Streep's work on language is magnificent in and of itself; I could watch this film again and again just to hear her say, "I had a farm... out of Africa." This movie is deep and rich in the best sense, with tremendous cinematography, a great soundtrack, Oscar-quality performances, and a great story to be told.
Movie Review: Some of Barry's Best Work Summary: 5 Stars
Everything it seems, has been said about this gorgeous film, except perhaps about the sound track. John Barry's work is outstanding and seems to enhance the move at its most powerful moments. The lasting impression I have more than two decades after the movie is the "Flight over Africa," when Denys takes his love up for a flight in his plane. I could watch - and listen - a million times and be enthralled every time.
