Movie Reviews of OsamaMovie Review: "Osama" Summary: 5 Stars
This movie really showed how the Taliban regime oppressed the women and girls, and also oppressed human rights as well as public opinion. Everyone lived in fear whenever the mullah came to town to search their home, especially the one scene when Osama and her mother and grandmother attended a wedding , and while the music was playing, the mullah came and all the women had to put up their burkha (the tent like dresses with the screen) and act like they were mourning the loss of a relative, since music and pictures were forbidden in the Taliban. I was on the edge of my seat watching what "Osama" had to go through to keep disguise from being discovered with the street urchin Espandi. This movie was better than any documentary film I've ever watched!
Movie Review: Well Done Summary: 5 Stars
Unfortunately, Afghans have dealt with war for the last 25 years with the Soviet invasion, then the Taliban takeover and now the U.S. invasion. This movie shows a realistic portrayal of Afghanistan during the Taliban regime. The despair the people feel over war is visible in this movie.
This movie effectively shows Afghanistan under the Taliban regime and the atrocities they committed on Afghans. The cinematography and acting is wonderful. The sad thing is that there are still millions of people in the world who live in conditions just as bad and nothing is done to help them.
If you would like to see Afghanistan and the brave Afghan people shown in a beautiful and realistic way then you should watch this movie.
Movie Review: An eye-opening film Summary: 5 Stars
I just saw "Osama" today on The Movie Channel, so I cannot comment on the DVD. However, this is a riveting film and the young star who plays Osama is haunting in her protrayal. I watched this film in amazement as I am familiar with the hardships of women in a Taliban Afghanistan, but this film brought those horrors (really) to light and life. I found the filming engaging. It did not drag for me. The scenes where Osama has been taken to the Taliban sponsored boys school kept me on edge, particulary the bath scene. I will not give away the ending but it was better than I expected though not unsurprising. I shed a silent tear for all the young women like Osama who suffered as her character did in this film.
Movie Review: Brilliant, searing and unforgettable Summary: 5 Stars
This film beautifully portrays both the tenacity of the human spirit and the dark brutality it descends to like no other. The compelling acting of leading actress Marina Golbahari is awesome by any standard, and so are the notable performances by her on-screen friend played by Arif Herati.
This is a must-see for anyone who wishes to view the tragedy of the oppressive Taliban rule in Afghanisitan from a new, poignant human side; all too often we become desensitised to the barrage of carnage repeatedly shown in the mass media. This evocative film will reawaken your sensitivities to the real human suffering that is taking place in so many places in the world.
Movie Review: Beautiful and shocking Summary: 5 Stars
This movie is beautiful and shocking at the same time. It could also be filmed in such an enlightened country as Saudi Arabia where women and female children are allowed to burn in a schoolhouse under the blessing of their Taliban like Wahhabi morals police. This is what is shocking and tragic about the Taliban portrayed in this movie. It is also beautiful in it's harsh realism. One of the most beautiful quotes in the film is by the grandmother: "God created men and women as equals." Too bad much of the world in their medieval mindset doesn't believe this, and oppressive regimes such as the Wahhabi regime and the extremist regime in the Sudan exist.
