Movie Reviews of One Night with the King

Movie Review: Pleasantly Surprised
Summary: 5 Stars

I did not get to see this movie when it first came out. I had seen the trailers and could not wait for the DVD release. I decided to pre order it only to be quite disheartened by some of the negative reviews. For anyone who is a little confused by them as much as I was let me set the record straight. If you are even considering buying the movie... BUY IT!

First of all the costumes are interesting and elegant. It is beautifully filmed (not low budget as implied by other reviewers) It is evident that this was a carefully thoughtout project, execellenly executed. It is so sad to see people tear this movie down. The very people who should be supporting it. It is only through our support that wholesome entertainment can thrive.

If you want a biblical account of the story of Esther then read your bible and study it! It is a movie for goodness sake. It is for entertainment. It is not a school of Theology. The story accurately follows the biblical account. Naturally it fills in the blanks where the bible does not go into detail.
These areas needed to be dipicted but do not change the meaning of the story in any way. Ofcourse the details are based on information of the people and of the time.

In short, it is a great movie!

Movie Review: A grand retelling of Ester along with some romance
Summary: 5 Stars

Ester, we all know who she is and if you have been sleeping under a rock; she was the queen of Persia after wedding the infamous King Xerxes. But, let's get with the review.

A lot of Christians were upset that this movie was not totally accurate and "Da-Vinci Code wanna-be". They are however mistaken because otherwise Ester would probably be anti-semetic and went after Haman just so he would be gone. That would be more upsetting eh?

But now, this movie has a great cast, great CGI moments (those Persians never gave up on art), and lots of historical "guesses" and "historical fiction". I noticed that Haman's symbol looks like the Swastika (note that before Nazis used it for their motto, it was a sign of good luck) but unlike many Christians who despised that, I thought it perked up the film further.

Also there is a brief moment with the great Peter O'Toole as the prophet Samuel. He did a glorious job with this part and so did Gimli (not the actor's real name but more common to call him that :P) under the role of Ester's father.

Anyway, I recommend seeing this film for a ton of reasons:

1. FAMILY FUN!! YAY!!!

2. Romance for the ladies and some action scenes and suspense for the boys.

Movie Review: Fabulous film - one of my favorites
Summary: 5 Stars

My opinion is that all the complaining about this film is petty. The film was not made so that a bunch of religious "Pharisee's" could criticize it. While bickering over trivial details, I would have to question a persons entire household.....is everything in it "Christ-honoring"? If Jesus was knocking at your door, would you have to hide anything??? What hypocrits.

The purpose of this film and all the films before and after "One Night with the King" has always been to intice UN-believers to come to accept Jesus Christ as Savior, WHICH IS THE ONLY DUTY OF ANY FOLLOWER OF JESUS CHRIST. The film was not meant for so-called Christian people to mawl around and nit pick for their enjoyment.

All the "religious" bickering is very UN-Christlike and pathetic.

I adored the movie but I enjoy drama. Drama puts words into action and picture....makes the past come alive to me. I was able to compare myself to Esther and have wondered what it must have been like to be "Esther" in such a time. I had to ask myself "Could I have been as brave and wise?" Esther exemplified incredible "wisdom" which is something very few people today have and are in great need of.

Movie Review: One Night with the King -- the Story of Esther
Summary: 5 Stars

We have watched the movie several times and have throughly enjoyed it. I read along with the King James version of the Book of Esther as I watched the movie, the second time, to compare facts. Of course the book of Esther is short and the movie long and they did need to fill in between. But I found the movie very factual in the respect of the main story told in the Bible. It has several known stars who help to "make" the movie. The scenery is fantastic as are the sets and wardrobes. There are a couple of characters that are hard to understand in the pronunciation of some words in their dialogue -- hence watching it again to see if we could catch what they said and/or meant. It did not detrack at all from the movie, however. There is the sensitive issue of the royal eunuch but it is not dwelled on but only mentioned. They do not show violence but only imply violent outcomes. It, also, shows the belief of prayer combined with fasting to overcome evil by soliciting the help of God. I feel that this is a movie the whole family can enjoy. It rates up there with The Ten Commandments as that movie too had to "fill in the gaps from the story in the Bible".

Movie Review: GREAT MOVIE, HIDDEN TRUTHS
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this movie only because it has hidden truths in it. You have to watch this movie with the eyes and ears of the Holy Spirit or you do not really get it. A person has to already know the story of Esther to appreciate the story line and it's value. The movie brings out many parables but again you have to know Biblical Truth to see it. For example, at the end when Esther reveals who she really is, she makes a statement that is so powerful in the spirit realm yet it does not make an impact on her natural listeners. The kife of the statement cuts through the darkness and shines forth the Light of Jehovah and his covenant with His people. It wants to make you stand up with her and shout,"YOU BETCHA!"
Throughout the movie there are many such statements and actions as this that will fall on deaf ears and blind eyes if you do not watch it with the Holy Spirit's guidance and direction. Definately a movie for a Christian who knows Kingdom power, yet not to say that the Lord cannot use it as a tool for evangelism in other areas. I have watched it again and again and find something new in it each time. Pray before you watch.
