Movie Reviews of One Magic Christmas

Movie Review: EXCELLENT!!
Summary: 5 Stars

The "magic" in One Magic Christmas is often (and surprisingly) of the "black" variety. Like Jimmy Stewart before her, worn-out wife and mother Mary Steenburgen wishes that she'd never been born. And like Stewart, Steenburgen is visited by a guardian angel, in this case the western-garbed Harry Dean Stanton. Instead of granting Steenburgen's wish, Stanton shows her what life would be like without Christmas-and that vision is as grim as anything you're ever likely to see in any Holiday film. Throughout the horrendous tragedies heaped upon Steenburgen, we are comforted in the knowledge that Stanton is working in concert with Steenburgen's young daughter. Steenburgen learns her lesson of course, but what a ride!

Movie Review: Best Christmas Movie... except to Disney.
Summary: 5 Stars

I agree with others who say this is their favorite Christmas movie. It is also mine. Unfortunately, Disney has never seemed to pay much attention to it. It took quite a while for it even to be released in a widescreen version. This movie needs to add the usual extra features most movies have today. (I'm not even sure if they finally closed-captioned it! It wasn't originally.) As with other movies today, I'd like to see it brought to Blu-ray. It seems the fans of this movie think more of it than Disney does. I hope that changes. For those who haven't seen it, marking this, as so many others have, as my favorite Christmas movie stands as its own recommendation. Get with it, Disney. Give this film the care it deserves.

Movie Review: All time favorite Christmas film
Summary: 5 Stars

As a child, I grew up watching a VCR recorded TV presentation of this film every Christmas. I was thrilled to own the DVD since I no longer have that old recording. I have always loved the message the movie presents about finding the Christmas spirit, and that sometimes it's right in front of you even if you can't see it. It's moral is somewhat like that of "It's a Wonderful Life" however the story is different and takes a few turns that leave you breathless. It was filmed probably in the 80's or early 90's so the quality is a bit less then perfect, but it does not distract from the story whatsoever. I definitely recommend this movie for all families to own as it is my personal favorite.

Movie Review: Christmas is the importance of family
Summary: 5 Stars

I absolutely love this movie. The main character (Mary Steenbergen) is a bah-humbug scrooge working mother, who does not appreciate the blessings she has in life (health and family). She hates Christmas and all of the expense that goes with it. She has two lovely children and an adoring husband who spends his spare time - get this - refurbishing bicycles to give to poor children (now THAT'S my idea of a real man)! An angel helps teach her the HARD WAY, to see that her glass is half full, not half empty. Keep a BIG box of kleenex handy. And it is not necessarily a chick flick - my husband loves this movie, also!

Movie Review: Most Underrated Christmas Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Whether it was because of a low budget or lack of major Hollywood star power, the writing and acting in this movie is phenominal and really hits you every time you watch it. I know that every year when I watch around the beginning of December, it always gives me that warm feeling.
Must have for any Christmas movie lover. Harry Deen Stanton is brilliant and really lets you believe he is an angel. Mary Steenburgen plays her stubborn best and it really gets you yelling at the scream, "BELIEVE!!!!"
The kids are great and take on very emotional roles and you believe them.
Great movie!
