Movie Reviews of On the BeachMovie Review: Makes you think ... heartbreaking. Summary: 5 Stars
The premise of this classic B&W movie is that there has been a nuclear exchange with radioactivity poisoning everyone on planet Earth. Only those on a submarine have been temporarily spared from what is inexorable for them in time. One of the ten best movies of all time, though its premise of a world gone mad [USSR vs. USA nuclear exchange and mutual annhilation] may seem a bit dated. At least one hopes so?
Movie Review: On the Beach - Great Work Summary: 5 Stars
A lesser known work of Fred Astaire, Anthony Perkins, Ava Gardner and Gregory Peck, but one that is well presented and underscores the fears associated with the Cold War / Nuclear Holocaust era. It provides hope (even in the midst of futility) that "man" will strive to survive and love will prevail. A great addition to any library.
Movie Review: Good Peck Film. Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie when it was first released. Definitely dated, it has its moments.
Gregory Peck is excellent in the role of a submarine captain, and the rest of the cast is good.
It was one of the best Cold War doomsday thrillers.
The remake is terrible.

Movie Review: A Cold War Classic Summary: 5 Stars
On the Beach is truly an excellent Cold War Classic - I think this is
a movie everyone should see at least once. Fine acting by the best of
actors for its time. Get a copy for yourself and get a viewing audience
to watch it too.
Movie Review: Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
Bought this because it was recommended on several websites as an end-of-the-world movie that focuses on what people will really do rather than what splattering messes we'll make of each other. Still one of the best out there, I think.
