Movie Reviews of Oliver!

Movie Review: Buy this movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

They simply do not make them like this anymore. My mother owned the soundtrack record to this movie and I remember listening to it constantly as a young child. I bought the movie for my 9-year old daughter and she loves it. The dancing, singing, and elaborate sets make it a must have if you love musicals or have children who are artistic or just love this sort of thing. Try it on a child who is currently into "High School Musical"...I bet they'll love it!

Movie Review: Oliver!
Summary: 5 Stars

The considerable talents of British director Carol Reed and composer/lyricist Lionel Bart combine to create an exuberant musical worthy of its revered source. The cast, both young and old, excel, and songs like "Consider Yourself" and "As Long As He Needs Me" stand the test of time. "Oliver" won six Oscars, including Best Picture, a rare feat for a musical. Watch this and you'll say: "Please, sir, may I have some more?"

Movie Review: Dickens would have been proud
Summary: 5 Stars

Many filmhistorians praise the 1948 film, but Carol Reed`s adaption of the Broadway play is a miracle come true. Sit back and enjoy a landmark in the history of "from Broadway to Hollywood"-musicals:-)... This and CABARET 1972 were the truly last great musicals.... Fortunately the genre was revived through the 90s via Disney and now we can enjoy Evita, Moulin Rouge, Chicago and The Phantom of the Opera.

Movie Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

If only movies were made like this today. This film is filled with witty comedy, wonderful music, and great acting. One of the best musicals out there!! This film displays a boy's life going from the lowest of low (an orphanage) and slowely rising to a better life. The only thing is, it makes stealing look a little. .. well . . fun! But i'm sure we can all live with that right?

Movie Review: Masterpiece!
Summary: 5 Stars

According to Wikipedia, "Masterpiece (or chef d'aeuvre) in modern usage refers to a creation that has been given much critical praise, especially one that is considered the greatest work of a person's career or to a work of outstanding creativity, skill or workmanship". Watching "Oliver!" I can't help thinking that this musical is a true masterpiece.
