Movie Reviews of Nowhere to RunMovie Review: Van Damme's greatest acting movie... Summary: 4 Stars
Jean Claude Van Damme has brought so much to the action movie world that anyone who likes action films should thank him. This film is so different than any other one he's starred in.Van Damme plays a fugitive who escapes from prison thanks to his friend who should of been the real convict in prison anyway's.Van Damme runs off and hides on some farm land. The story line sounds corny I know but the film is relatively a great one.Rosanna Arquette co-stars in this good action/drama flick. With lots of raw action, superb acting and tons of romance this film is one of Van Dammes best.
Movie Review: 4 stars for a van Damme movie anyhow! Summary: 4 Stars
This is a must for any van Damme fan. Tony Keogh obviously doesn't understand the nature of a van Damme movie if he thinks the direction of the plot makes it a good JCvD movie or not. Okay so the plot sits still after he arrives at the farm and understands that Arquette is trying to be evicted from her property by the big bad company, but so what? Van Damme is at his best when the plot is kept simple! Believe me a true JCvD fan will not be disappointed with 'Nowhere To Run'. 4 JCvD stars.
Movie Review: An enjoyable film, if you don't expect too much Summary: 3 Stars
An escaped convict, Sam (Jean Claude Van Damme), hides out on the ranch property of a single mother, Clyddie (Rosana Arquette), and her two children, and ends up helping the family to stand-up to an unscrupulous developer (Joss Ackland) who wants to buy Clyddie's land to mine it.
"Nowhere to Run" is not a great film. The plot is lifted directly from some old western and is utterly contrived and predictable, and the two young children seem to only be included in the story in order to emotionally manipulate the audience. Jean Claude Van Damme doesn't even get to show off his martial arts skills all that much. Nevertheless, in spite of all of the above, somehow this film managed to work, and I enjoyed it more than many films that are far better made. It is a fun, mindless action movie that kept me entertained and didn't tax my brain too much. Sure, the script is laughably bad at times (in particular the romance elements and any scenes involving Van Damme's relationship with Clyddie's son), but that just added to the entertainment value. Provided that you go into this film not expecting too much, you too will probably enjoy it.
Movie Review: Only Thing Van Damme Made Worth Mentioning Summary: 3 Stars
Since the 90's Van Damme's career has gone from bad to worse. Because of his limited acting he joined the ranks of Stallone and Schwarzenneger as an action hero. After over a decade of making plotless films, Nowhere to Run is the only film Van Damme should list on his resume. For the first time fans could take him seriously and it was refreshing not seeing him in mid air balancing a plane on one foot and a horse on the other. This is a good, uncomplicated film for movie buffs, Van Damme fans especially. Though a lot of them won't appreciate the lack of superficial action. Van Damme finally did something right when he took part in this movie. Unfortunately he followed this film up with a long list of wrongs that killed his career.
Movie Review: Not bad at all ! Summary: 3 Stars
First of all, there are not many action scenes so if you expect a lot of fighting you will be disappointed. But it does have something that rarely appear in Van Damme's flick, a love scene and a good one with the lovely Rosanna Arquette. Also featured Ted Levine (Buffalo Bill from Silence of the lambs) as main bad guy. Basically it is a standard Van Damme action flick with extra bonus, Rosanna Arquette. The DVD is OK. Good picture quality and Dolby surround 2.0 is fine.
