Movie Reviews of Nothing But TroubleMovie Review: Warped and proud of it Summary: 5 Stars
When I told my sons this was one of my very favorite movies, they both lost any respect they had previously held for me. Boo hoo! One of the reasons might be that my older son's nickname used to be Bobo - until this movie came out.
I tell friends the same thing about it being a favorite and they totally change their opinion of me (not for the better, I'm afraid).
Oh well...I live with it because I have a warped sense of humor and love this movie. Dan Ackroyd is phenomenal as decrepit, disgusting Shire Reeve of his own little corner of the crazy universe (and Bobo); John Candy (may he rest in peace) was perfect as Dennis (and coy Eldona); Demi Moore looks good. Chevy Chase plays a great straight man, feeding lines to everyone else and acting the perfect stooge. Taylor Negron is perfect as Fausto and Bertila Damas as Renalda, Brazillionaires and darn proud of it.
I loved those roly poly mutants, Bobo and L'il Debbull, and especially their card game with Demi Moore.
I liked all the bits and pieces (you really have to watch this movie a few times to catch all the jokes and sight gags).
I don't even have any idea how many times I've watched this movie. LOTS! The local discount store that starts with a "W" usually has DVD's of it in the bargain bin so I buy them and give them to (past) friends; use them as stocking stuffers at Christmas. I want to spread the zaniness wealth around, you see. Or maybe I'm actually a Russian mole in deep cover, trying to subvert U.S. citizens by spreading totally irreverent propaganda to the masses.
And a warning to parents: there is some adult-aimed humor in this movie. Most would probably go over small children's heads but older children/teens will understand, I am sure - rather in the realm of potty humor.
Summary of Nothing But TroubleGet spooked silly when Chevy Chase and Demi Moore take a wrong turnpike exit and find "hanging judge" Dan Aykroyd and "constable" John Candy in a bizarre New Jersey burg. Year: 1990 Director: Dan Aykroyd Starring: Chevy Chase, Dan Aykroyd, Demi Moore, John Candy
