Movie Reviews of Northern Exposure - The Complete SeriesMovie Review: One of the Best Shows of the 90's! Summary: 5 Stars
I always did like this program back when it first aired in the early 90's. The only problem I had at the time was that I was going to College and never did see all of the episodes, but the ones I did see were really funny and great! I especially liked the fact that the doctor goes up to Anchorage to pay off his college for 3 years and doesn't really know what he's getting himself into, and then he's forced into staying overtime and ends up serving his time in small town Cicely instead. Well, don't want to ruin this for anyone that hasn't seen it. As far as the music goes, I really don't remember what soundtracks were on there except for this one episode (for some reason I remember the music on this one) and Brian Eno was playing at the end so I remember that one for some reason...Well guess what!!?? The tune I remember is still on that exact same episode AND soundtrack SO I DON'T KNOW what all the hoopla is about "removing the original music".
Although, I do seem to remember Chris on the radio playing more "rocked out tunes" but instead he now plays (it seems like) more "classical" tunes...ha-ha and so you can take it for what it's worth - I'll let you decide because I did. I debated on buying this set for too long and kept listening to the reviews about the change in music. I'll be truthful with you but I think I agree but disagree with those reviewers. On one hand I "seem to remember" more tunes being in there, but for some reason it doesn't bother me because I'm zoned into the story more. I'm into the 5th season so far after purchasing this and I seem to enjoy it more now than when it first aired. It's probably because I like watching it in sequential order and not miss one episode.
I see nothing wrong with the music tracks on the DVD...actually I think it makes the series more "timeless" now that it doesn't have a "TIMESTAMP" such as the music's early grunge and 90's tunes in it anymore. I still give this DVD set 5 stars because it's a great show about life lessons, the rugged simple life, big cities, small towns, and basically your existence in this world and it's witty too. Don't worry about the tunes if you really enjoyed this program. It's worth every penny!
