Movie Reviews of Norbit (Full Screen)Movie Review: Funny Stuff fromThe Great Eddie Murphy Summary: 4 Stars
I grew up laughing to Eddie Murphy. I liked his SNL skits such as "Mr Rogers Neighborhhod" and his excellent early movies like "Trading Places. But most of all I loved his often crude but always hilarious stand up routine. The album that included "Ice Cream Man" is my all time favorite comedy record. There are other comics, like Richard Pryor and Lenny Bruce, that may be considered more important in terms of social commentary. But, for me, Murphy is the king of funny and when it comes to comedy funny is what it's all about.
Norbit is not an Oscar winner. But rather the simple story of a nerd named Norbit. He is trapped in an unhappy marriage to the obese and ugly Rasputia. But when his childhood sweetheart, Kate, returns he finds the courage to begin a new life. Sure there is alot of gross out humor and this might not be the best movie to take children to. But hey funny is funny and watching Rasputia shoot down a water slide is flat out funny. The story is also a likeable one, as the nerd and the nice girl triumph over the bad guys. If you want some good laughs this is a movie to check out.
Movie Review: Hilarious! Summary: 4 Stars
Eddie Murphy has done it again in Norbit, where he plays both the title character and his wife/nemesis, the pricelessly named "Rasputia." Norbit is timid and lacks self-esteem. An orphan, he was conscripted into marriage and into Rasputia's organized crime-like family. It seems there is no escape for Norbit, until a fellow orphan returns to purchase the orphanage. She and Norbit were childhood sweethearts, and her appearance revitalizes him. But will Rasputia stand for the interloper? To what lengths will she go to keep her hold on her husband?
Murphy really understands each one of his characters, so much so that it is scary. How can he have the p.o.v. of an obese, abusive woman? An eccentric Chinese man? (Yes, he plays the orphanage caretaker as well). But he does. The film is not just funny, but even somewhat inspiring. All I have to say is Rasputia's tagline, "How YOU doin'?" If I say that, it scares my husband and just makes me laugh harder.
Movie Review: JUST A GOOD 4 Stars
Eddie Murphy stars many times over in this ribald comedy about a timid, backward, geeky orphan who grows up and marries his childhood protector--a loud, overbearing and overweight woman named Rasputia with an overblown opinion of herself. When Kate, Norbit's first love who grew up in the orphanage with him returns to town in an effort to save the town's orphanage, she has no idea that her fiancee has conspired with Rasputia's brothers to steal the orphanage from her in order to open a topless bar....meanwhile, the philandering Rasputia suspects Kate and Norbit of having an affair.
Crude but funny and at times grossly stereotypical, Murphy displays his acting range once again by playing a variety of different characters. If you're looking for a good laugh and a whole lot of fun, this movie is the ticket.

Movie Review: Very, Very Funny! Summary: 4 Stars
I read somewhere that This movie was considered the worst movie of the year. Some people just don't get it! I don't just mean this movie, they don't get it period! My wife is a big fan of comedies so we go see just about anything that looks interesting. Some of her favorites are: Anchorman, Blades of Glory, Nacho Libre, Dodgeball, and now Norbit. We laughed so hard during this movie that we hardly ate our popcorn. Raspucia (I hope I spelled it right) is one of Eddie Murphy's best characters ever. There's a scene where she's scantily clad and washing a car with the song "My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard". I was laughing so hard, I was in tears. Anybody who doesn't think this movie is funny just doesn't have a sense of humor.
Movie Review: For a previous reviewer Summary: 4 Stars
I read a review saying not for younger people. Some angry parent was blabbing on and on about how this movie is not good for children and how they were so dissappointed in its crude and violent behavior. DURH!!! The rating on the DVD itself says PG-13. For starters if you have kids younger then 13 watching this, they shouldn't be watching this in the first place. Secondly, if you have a 13 yr old that is so sheltered that this material is shocking, that is a shame. Sounds like a sever case of being overprotecting. Despite their review the movie was good. Had great laughs, Eddie Murphy is a comic genus.
