Movie Reviews of Noises Off...Movie Review: All the charm and wit of a stage production. Summary: 5 Stars
Noises off! is a delightfully comedy of errors look at what goes into a stage production and what goes on backstage. Michael Caine is the director of a play that is just days away from showing. While rehearsing with the cast of hilarious cast members: Christopher Reeves, John Ritter, Carol Bernett, and that curly-haired guy from that hit tv show PERFECT STRANGERS.
What I liked about this movie is that they got the attitude just right. It really does feel rushed and confusing when you are in a stage production and the shananagians backstage are just as funny, if not a little funnier, than the antics going on onstage.
People flubbing lines, missed cues, missing props, re-appearing props, character conflicts, hidden romances and more! This is a classic comedy that doesn't stop with the laughs until the very end.
You'll love it!
Movie Review: The truth of every drama production Summary: 5 Stars
Curtain's up, light goes down, everyone goes quiet, and... The director leaves the building. This is pretty much the happinings at any drama production. Rehearsals, dress rehearsals, tech rehearsals everytime it goes terribly down hill. Actors get on each other's nerves, and the little vains in the forehead of the director begin to show. This is such a comical screenplay greet on film or on the stage I captures everything. And any performer knows that a terrible upcoming of a play 99.9% of the time results with a perfect opening big opening production. This shows the down fall of every show and it gets worst each time.
A must see for everyone. A plus is that Christopher Revees and John Ritter are in this one too.
Enjoy!
Movie Review: If you've ever been in a play... Summary: 5 Stars
Or, for that matter, if you've ever been involved in any pursuit requiring the continued cooperation of a diverse group of people, this film will strike a chord within you. However, those who have been in a play or a musical will find these moments especially funny. The cast is outstanding- Christopher Reeve is possibly the most underrated comic actor of our time, but he's so good looking, it's easy to forget how funny he is. John Ritter is a genius at physical comedy and slapstick, and Carol Burnett plays over-the-top emotion in a completely believable way. There are no back stories or sentimentality- just rehearsing the play and performing the play. You will love it.
Movie Review: Great entertainment! Summary: 5 Stars
If the point of a movie is to entertain, then Noises Off! has succeeded brilliantly. Even though the direction is somewhat pedestrian, this excellent ensemble cast is able to (usually) rise above it. I find it sad that it did not do well at the box office, and it was, I believe, prematurely pulled. Personally, I have to be sure to have taken my asthma medications before watching it, and each time I watch it, I find some new tidbit which I had missed before...excellent slapstick farce/comedy. I recommend it highly. You have to pay attention, though, because the point usually fast-paced dialogue can easily slip away, and you may have just missed another reason to laugh.
Movie Review: Noises Off had me noisily laughing Summary: 5 Stars
I saw Noises Off in London many years ago. When the film came out I was sure it wouldn't come across well. I mean, it's about the theater and setting it on film just sounded strange. Was I ever wrong. I laugh just thinking about this movie. The cast is amazing. Christopher Reeve, Carol Burnett, John Ritter :-(, Michael Caine, and directed by Peter Bogdanovich. This has become a comfort movie for me because it is so well done and the comedy is so well executed. I suppose it should be said, however, that if you are not a theater fan you probably won't connect with it as well as someone who has spent some time in that environment.
