The movie takes great liberties with the book, but it does continue the theme of literacy and freedom. I would recommend it for the storyline, but do not expect it to follow the book at all (aside from main characters). My students greatly enjoyed it though.Movie Review: Good movie

After having my 8th grade class read the Gary Paulsen novel for class, I decided to purchase the movie. Needless to say the movie is nothing like the book. I agree that there was no need to show the brutality of the book, but there was also no need to completely change the storyline, adding events that just shouldn't have been there, as well as changing the outcome for Nightjohn and Sarny.
