Movie Reviews of Night of the CreepsMovie Review: Guilty Pleasure Summary: 4 Stars
NIGHT OF THE CREEPS is one of those flicks I've remembered for years, and I clicked immediately when I saw it was finally available on DVD. For the most part it's a send-up of a whole slew of horror movies, with the emphasis on zombies (although largish slugs also have a say in the matter), and the creative team toss in all sorts of references along the way, from the names of the characters to the old woman watching NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD late one night. The writing is surprisingly witty at times, and the mix of chuckles and spooks is just right. Watch for David Paymer in a relatively small but significant role, and Allan Kayser ("Bubba Higgins" from the sitcom MAMA'S FAMILY, also a guilty pleasure of mine) is the slimey Nordic frat president. The DVD extras are interesting, with the cast reunited, but it's sad to see how professionally poorly the director has done over the years.
Movie Review: Should be beautiful, and chocked full of features Summary: 4 Stars
The guys at Ain't it Cool News can give you more detail, but it looks like the release date is set for October 19th, and the DVD should have a lot of interesting features, including cast commentary and director commentary. Austin's Alamo Drafthouse had a screening of the director's cut, and the print was pristine. Absolutely gorgeous.
It turns out that the fan demand forced Sony to realize there was strong demand for this, and it was the fans that made this DVD happen. Red Shirt Productions is producing the DVD, and they recorded the reunion screening Q&A for a featurette on the DVD. So this one should be worth the wait.
Movie Review: Awesome Creepy Fun!!! Summary: 4 Stars
I received this as a Christmas present, and I finally watched it a few days ago. It was better than I expected. I love that it kinda spoofs the horror and sci-fi genre of the 1950's. 27 years after an Alien virus is brought to Earth, a zombie is unfrozen with the virus and begins to attack people. Small leeches get under people's skin and infect them. Chris Romero, and Detective Ray Cameron try to stop the leeches and the zombies on the night of the formal. I highly recommend NIGHT OF THE CREEPS!!!
Movie Review: HORRIBLE CHOICES FOR ARTWORK Summary: 4 Stars
Are they kidding with this? Looks like a 3rd grader made these as a joke....I have been really looking forward to this movie and based on the 3 choices we can vote on for cover art we get it shows there will be zero care going into this....its probably gonna be a crappy transfer -- i am cancelling my preorder until i read some reviews of the transfer - such a shame not to use the origial poster artwork
Movie Review: NOPE... NOT UNTIL WE GET A "THEATRICAL" VERSION! Summary: 2 Stars
I've been waiting forever for the release of this title on DVD (the only movie title I ever held out for to come to DVD where I either did not resort to purchasing it on the "International" market or had just simply grown tired of waiting for it & ultimately decided against purchasing it altogether -- both of which having been my responses to such long waits more times than anyone would care to know). Now we're being told that this ONE & ONLY film I have so overly-patiently waited on is being released finally... but *ONLY* with the "Director's" so-called "intended" ending! Hey look, that's all good... but could you not have done some of us fans the good decent favor of producing *BOTH* versions and allowing fans the *CHOICE* of which version they wanted for their collection??? Would that have been so terribly difficult? Or could you not have done as the DVD versions of the movies "Terminator 2" and "clue" did by embedding the 'version' option right within the DVD play menu? So now I "STILL" won't be able to have this title as part of my personal collection until a "Theatrical/Studio" version is released for those of us who want that version! Gee... thanx alot, Dekker!
