Movie Reviews of Nicholas and Alexandra

Movie Review: Grand, Emotional, Tragic Spectacle
Summary: 5 Stars

.... It seems that the two oldest Czarevnas are in opposite positions. --The tall slender fairer-haired one should be Olga, the eldest, and the even taller slender brunette should be the second daughter,Tatiana. But the film now shows the scenes involving Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, and Madame Krupskaya metioned in a 1971 review from a magazine that I photocopied years ago. The scenes of Nicholas scolding Alexis for his suicide attempt in Tobolsk, and the daughters' reaction to constant sexual harassment by the Bolshevik guards during their final days at Ekaterinberg were really touching, as was the suicide of a demoralized commanding officer at the start of World War I. I applaud the restoration effort completely, and feel that it should have won the Oscar for Best Picture of 1971.

Movie Review: Excellent Film; Historically Correct
Summary: 5 Stars

I've wanted this movie for a long time, and it didn't disappoint when I watched it again. There are some of the small details that were historically innacurate, but for the most part, it is a very good historical perspective on the Russian revolution. The acting is excellent (the one exception being the actor portraying Lenin), and the photography and filming is brilliant. My one complaint would be that some of the dialogue on the movie seems to be below normal volume. I had to rewind a couple of times, trying to hear what was being said. The soundtrack is remarkable as well. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys a love story, history, costuming, or incredible scenery. It's well worth the watch.

Movie Review: great film....even though it isnt all acurate
Summary: 5 Stars

this is a good film. the best thing is that it is a real movie...not a documentary. micheal jayston does a great job playing the tzar and jannet suzman does a great job playing the tzarina. the movie pretty much follows the book "nicholas and alexandra" written by robert k. massie (great book). their are some historical flaws. a main one is: the family was executed with 4 servants, not just 1. it is a good movie though, especcially if you are intrested in the romanovs, its good even if you arent too. oh but the bad thing about the dvd edition is that their arnt any bonus'! but i gave the dvd 5 stars anyways just because its an overall good movie.

Movie Review: Nicholas and Alexandra
Summary: 5 Stars

A beautifully filmed and concise story which does an excellent job of explaining the reasons behind the Russian Revolution, why Rasputin gained such a prominent place in the lives of the Tsar and Empress, and how Nicholas's inability to see that times and events were changing led to the collapse of the Romanov dynasty. This was a complex story with many elements involved; the film covers these points well. Michael Jayston's resemblance to Nicholas II is almost eerie; Tom Baker is an excellent Rasputin; and Janet Suzman is wonderful as Alexandra, who was a wife and mother above all.

Movie Review: We are the History.
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a story,it's the past that we can't hold back.We must not be so dupe of what had happened.I watched it,I know it and I don't want to ask questions where the answers are there. We know the answers.Somehow rather, the movie is to me,very well done. It's enjoyable to me though there are few afflict scenes. It can happen to me,to you and to anybody. It's a story of the past that has shaped the World.I have also that documentary regarding Romanov. It's just that, when I learnt in school,at fourteen years old,I can't imagine how the Emperor and his Emperesse would look like.
