Movie Reviews of Niagara

Movie Review: GRIPPING THRILLER
Summary: 5 Stars

.....This movie has been described as the best thriller not directed by Alfred Hitchcock. The pace of the movie carries the viewer along to a stunning climax with fine performances by Joseph Cotton as the disturbed, somewhat psychotic husband, Marilyn Monroe at her sexiest before she became a caricture of herself, and Jean Peters as the sympathetic but conflicted third party.

.....The use of Niagra Falls as the backdrop for this drama is well done and masterful.

Movie Review: view film before trip
Summary: 5 Stars

We viewed this film before our trip to Niagara Falls. It was a great introduction to the area and you can still do a lot of the tourist things in the film. We couldn't visit the hotel because it was just a set, but our tour guide showed us where they built the set near the Canadian falls. The film had lots of twists and turns and we thought Marilyn Monroe was great in this part. The dialogue was a little forced but we really enjoyed it.

Movie Review: Niagara 1953
Summary: 5 Stars

A vacation couple , George and Rose Loomis (Joseph Cotten 1905-1994 / Marilyn Monroe 1926-1962) , rent a quaint bungalow at romantic Niagara Falls , N.Y . But Rose and her lover plan to murder the unsuspecting George - in the falls ! A dramatic departure from her more upbeat roles , Monroe's fascinating performance as the scheming murderess paints a powerful dark portrait of human sexuality . High Quality Transfer .

Movie Review: "Barrel (over the Falls) O' Fun"
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderfully suspenseful movie, shot with the grandeur of Niagra Falls as a backdrop--along with the accompanying noise and mist. Great acting by all parties: Monroe, Cotten, Peters et. al. It is very Hitchcocky in nature. We all know that Joseph Cotten can play evil and diabolical. In later years it was his hallmark. How about Marilyn? If you view this beautiful movie, you won't be wondering for long.

Movie Review: Norma J.
Summary: 5 Stars

Probably the best film and best role Marilyn Monroe played in her too short career. She looks magnificent. Interesting to note that, as the film was being shot at the falls, Monroe was in the heat of her relatively new relationship with Joe DiMaggio.
