Movie Reviews of NextMovie Review: Pleasantly surprised Summary: 4 Stars
Nicolas Cage the psychic. The guy has prophetic ability two minutes into the future, but uses his powers to case Vegas slots and do bad magic tricks.. Terrorists plot detonate a massive bomb in a major metropolitan area. The feisty F.B.I. agent Julianne Moore learns of Cage's ability and wants to use him to find the bomb, and the killer babe in Jessica Biel falls with vacant eyes for our star. All the ingredients for a bad z movie. But it is good. I've watched it twice, and would definitely recommend it. Cage gets around and does some diverse roles, to the say the least. My other favorites of his are Gone in Sixty Seconds [Region 2], and starring Sean Connery, The Rock
Movie Review: The best movie released in 2007 in terms of suspense and suprises! Summary: 4 Stars
This is the best movie released in 2007 in terms of suspense and suprises.
This movie kept me on edge from the beginning till the end. I kept asking myself "What's happening next?". I could not guess it. It might also because I have never read the story that this picture was based on. That turned out to be a good thing. I enjoyed it.
The ending is the biggest surprise. I've never seen any thing like that. The most illogical thing about this script is Nicolas was able to see things only 2 minutes before they happenned. Some people said that's not enough time to act on them in reality. But I can ignore that.
I wish the film had explored the relationship between Nicolas and Jessica more. That way, it would have became a suspense and love story.
Anyway, it's still the best film I've seen so far this year.
Movie Review: Silly but entertaining shenanigans Summary: 4 Stars
Of course, you'll have to suspend all common sense to get through this digital effects sci-fi 'thriller,' But you'll be very entertained, even if the plot has holes like the Grand Canyon. Why do these terrorists want to nuke LA? We are not told. I guess they planned to commit suicide when the bomb goes off. Anyway, Nick Cage plays a Vegas magician with "precognition," i.e., he sees the future, but only 2 minutes ahead and only if it involves himself. Just for ha-has, they make him fall for luscious Jessica Biel, because who wants to look at balding, jowly Nick Cage for 90 minutes? He is way, way too old for Jessica, but no matter. The avalanche and the nuclear explosion look very digital, as do the many scenes of Nick melting and morphing and zigzagging backward and forward in time. Smartly, this is very quick at 90 minutes, and you won't be bored.
Movie Review: Enjoyable and leave you hanging at the end Summary: 4 Stars
I have to agreed with earlier reviewers that you need to pay attentions to the dialogues because they are very subtle and witty. The nuclear bomb threat is kind of lame but I thought the film is very funny and enjoyable with all the witty alternative scenarios and pick-up lines. The movie is not about saving the world but more about a person sacrificing himself and protecting the woman he loves.
The ending leaves me hanging in the air which may not be a bad thing because as Chris(Cage) said in the movie "once you look into the future, you change it and it is no longer the same."
However, people at the theater seem to hate it and it didn't do well at the box office. Maybe, viewers were expecting action-thriller but instead they got a romantic comedy/drama. It just didn't fill their expectation.
Movie Review: Next to Godliness Summary: 4 Stars
What would you do if you could see into your immediate future?
This is a concept movie that actually works very well on a number of levels. Admittedly, the ending can be feel like a cop out to many viewers, but it actually is very much in keeping with the general theme of the movie. Accept it for what it is and it's really not that bad an ending.
Cage is, as always, very laid back in his portrayal, but that works very well for him. His magician persona works best when he gives no tell of what he is planning or what he has seen in the future.
To put this in proper context, this movie is inspired by a short story by Philip K Dick, who wrote the stories that spawned "Total Recall", "Blade Runner", "A Scanner Darkly", "Paycheck" and "Minority Report".
