Movie Review: This is a pleasant concert
Summary: 4 Stars
Frankly I do not understand the reviewer who was "down" on this DVD. The concert was a pleasing as were the 10 others or so I have of the new year's concert series. The orchestra and conducter worked well together. They went a bit beyond Strauss and explored some of the other light repetore. I am impressed, as usual, by Brian Large. I have found over the years that anything that involves Mr Large as the video director is first class -- this DVD is no exception. This is not my first choice from the Vienna Philharmonic New Year's concert series (Willie Boskovosky and karjon would be my first choice) but it is credible and reasonably priced
