Movie Reviews of Neil Gaiman's NeverwhereMovie Review: Brilliant! Summary: 5 Stars
I have long considered "Neverwhere" to be the best of Neil Gaiman - a true jewel. But I'm an American and did not know until I moved to Europe that the book was written AFTER the mini-series.
True to his characters, Mr. Gaiman has created a brilliant visual perspective of the world Down Below. The series is visually stunning and just dark enough to be enjoyable by everyone. The humour is Brit-dry but still makes even the darkest character comic. "Tube" humour is pervasive (Mind the Gap!) but doesn't keep anyone from enjoying the overall wackiness of the story and company of players.
It is a joy to watch.
Movie Review: If you can live without millions spent on CGI... Summary: 5 Stars
and love programs with strong writing and acting, you'll probably love this collection that has seen little airplay since it's original release. Having cut my teeth on Dr. Who, I was able to look past the lack of 'whizbang' special effects. To see an example of flash and eye candy w/o story to back it, rent Underworld. On second thought, don't! Neverwhere is a delightful romp through the London tube system with an interesting array of characters and ideas. To try and compare this program to anything else out there doesn't truly do Neil Gaiman any justice.
Movie Review: Cheesy. Cheap. But also great Fun and Entertainment. Summary: 5 Stars
I just wathced this series and I strongly recommend it to Neil Gaiman fans. Yes, it looks cheesy and cheap, but it is also a very good story, told in a fun and entertaining way, and visualized as a fun and entertaining mini-series.
Oh, for those complaining that it's a bad adaptation from the book: The script for the mini-series was written BEFORE the book, so the book is a novelization of the series and, therefore, a more refined product, with a lot more details.
Movie Review: Gaiman at his best Summary: 5 Stars
Is there anything this man cannot do? An atonishing talent from across the pond (although living in the US I believe). Whenever I see his name associated with something I know that it's going to be excellent. Neverwhere is a BBC production from the 1990's and has those wonderful BBC production values (ie, none) for which they are famous. The focus is on the story and the characters and it gets pulled off tremendously. Thank God for Neil Gaiman!
Movie Review: Wow. Seriously. Wow. Summary: 5 Stars
Neil Gaiman is a master at his craft ( I really sound like a critic, starting my review like that!!!!). No, seriously; Neverwhere paints a reality of another world underneath our own that none of us are aware of. The characters are vivid and radiate there individual attributes and faults. This is an amazing, amazing movie and should be watched by all ficiton
