Movie Reviews of Natural Born KillersMovie Review: Great movie if you like violent films! Summary: 4 StarsI have seen this movie many times. Some people love it, some people hate it but regardless of what you think, this movie makes a statement. I myself like it and think it was one of the best movies of the 90's. It's about a young couple Micky and Mallory who basically go on a killing spree. The movie flashes back to their lives, telling stories of their abusive and violent childhoods. It's a very dark love story about two people who are so messed up from horrible parenting and American culture and so desensitized that they have no value for human life. It is filmed in a very unique, edgy style which was ground breaking for it's time. This movie IS NOT for children and not for the faint of heart. There is a lot of gore and foul language and the 'body count' is extremely high! Some people think it glorifies violence but I would have to disagree. I think it's an honest movie and more a parody of how OUR MEDIA glorifies violence and makes celebrities out of people who are criminals!
Movie Review: Needless Gore Summary: 2 StarsThis movie was as one of the most disappointing in its genre, far less interesting than Pulp Fiction and even below the level of Reservoir Dogs. It is said that in the violent late Middle Ages street shows were often staged in European cities where fake blood flowed like water, heads fell off and stomachs erupted sausages to simulate intestines during an evisceration delighting the crowd. It seems that in the violent final decade of the twentieth century we had come full circle from Barbara Tuchman's gripping account of the awful fourteenth century. Despite the abundant gore if the film had been better handled it could have been quite good. There are glimpses of its failed potential at different points. For instance the scene towards the end where the prison governor's head is impaled on a broomstick and carried around by the revolting inmates seems to be a direct copy of an actual event at the Bastille during the days of the early French revolution. In sum, as a special kind of disgusting art form it is interesting, as entertainment though Natural Born Killers sucks. I admit some people will like it , no doubt the same crowd who would attend public executions if they were available for viewing.
Movie Review: One of the best movies ever made Summary: 5 StarsWhat a feast. This is one of the best made and directed movies ever.
Movie Review: To be great is to be misunderstood Summary: 5 StarsThose of you who dislike this movie have done exactly what was hoped for... extreme reactions, either positive or negative, to extreme filmmaking.
Genius. Ties with Gone With The Wind as my top film of all time.
Movie Review: A Slice of Americana with a Tall Glass of Non-Fat Milk Summary: 5 Stars Natural Born Killers took a stab at the media, penal system, and American culture so deep that it still has not recovered. Oliver Stone has always made risqu? films, and has always in my personal opinion put his heart and soul into them. Films such "The Doors", "Platoon" and "Nixon" which all captured some degree of humanity and subculture do not even hold a candle to this phenomenal work. The infusion of animation, pop culture and askew directing make this story (written by Quentin Tarantino) one of epic proportions.
I may be going a bit over board when I say this, but to me this is the best love story since Romeo and Juliet, except this one is much more bloody and sadistic. You have two unusual human beings, one was brought up by an alcoholic sex addict father that rapes and pillages every chance he gets along with a mother that lets it all happen, and the other is brought up by a physically abusive father and a mentally abusive mother. The two have a lot in common; mostly rage and anger but also a longing for someone to love them. Because of these factors the two go on a homicidal spree across the country.
Mickey (Woody Harrelson) and Mallory Knox (Juliette Lewis) tear through Route 666 in a frenzy of murder and lust until they are picked up at a convenient store by Detective Scagnettie (Tom Sizemore) and some of his police pals. The two maniacs were almost forced into the store after being bit by rattlesnakes in the desert. Then they go to prison and the real fun begins. Don't worry I won't spoil it for you.
The sex and violence formula plays out for these two twisted heroes, until of course their eventual capture and demise. While the viewer is unsure whether or not to root for these apocalyptic crusaders, they do triumph in the end.
The extras that accompany this flick are wonderful, especially the deleted scenes and the alternate ending. When Ashley Judd is in the courtroom being cross examined by Woody Harrelson, well lets just say that should have been put in the movie instead of just being an outtake.
