Movie Reviews of National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: Can a sequence be as good if not better than the original?
Summary: 5 Stars

You bet it can. Especially if you do not view them back-to-back. Usually the first in a series is fresh and surprisingly different. It is not an easy thing to keep up the momentum. Well in "National Treasure II" they added momentum. It was great keeping all our old friends and seeing how they progressed. It is not that Mitch Wilkinson (Ed Harris) does not make a good villain, but I was sort of hoping that Ian Howe (Sean Bean) would have escaped to create more havoc. This film was packed with great actors but I think that the character Prof. Emily Appleton (Helen Mirren) was a "double plus" good edition.

Basic story is that the Gates family is once again besmirched by the mysterious Mitch Wilkinson. And the only way to clear the family name is to find the city of Cibola (see-bowl-uh) meaning the City of Gold. All his old comrades and some new ones, including mom, pitch in to help. Let's see what mischief they get into and will they get out unscathed or is this it for our adventurous troop.

National Treasure / National Treasure 2 - Book of Secrets [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: Not quite great...
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a "Treasure" fanatic. Loved #1 and enjoyed #2. Worth buying and having, #2 lacks the pace and unpredictability of the original; I wanted to see them steal more things - but that's just me! I can recommend this as a great family pic and a worthy second feature when shown after the original. Plan to serve the chips, dips and wine during #2. Awwwww, that wasn't fair of me. However, Nick Cage is looking his age - I think it's the too dark hair dye. (Always go lighter when you're older). He looks like an aging Vegas lounge lizard. Everyone else looks fine although Justin Bartha is much more appealing with his stubble; which never appears in the film even after they've been climbing and discovering things for extended periods of time. Finally, I appreciate Amazon's discounting some of their Blu Rays! When will the industry catch up????? These prices are too high, the extras only so-so and the extra time enabled by Blu-Ray isn't used optimally. Visually - It's great! Audio - Superb. Despite my comments; If you loved #1 - buy Review: A Fun Ride!
Summary: 5 Stars I absolutely loved the first movie, National Treasure, and couldn't wait to see the sequel. Now the first film is probably a better movie overall, but the second film is very enjoyable and has more action to it than the first. I think most people really enjoy seeing how Ben Gates (Nicolas Cage)can get into and out of severly restricted and off-limits places to check clues without getting caught, such looking into the Queen's desk at Buckingham Palace. All the original actors are back in this film from the first, giving it some continuity, and some new charactors make apperances here, notably Helen Mirren as Ben's language professor mom, Emily. The thrills and chills come fast and furious here, and overall the film is good clean family fun. I'm holding out hope for a third National Treasure!

Movie Review: Entertaining...pure and simple.
Summary: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed the original and I was looking forward to seeing the sequel. I felt that it was just as entertaining as the original. I go see a movie to lose myself in a story for a couple of hours and this was a fun film that my whole family enjoyed. The movie continues at a good pace and never makes you want to leave your seat. It may not win any awards but than again, most of my favorite movies never have that end up being the most entertaining.

I can't wait to see both of these films on Blu-ray and enjoy them many times over the years! Get your popcorn and enjoy the movie!

Movie Review: Good fun film. Better than original release
Summary: 5 Stars

I've seen both of the National Treasure films, and friends that have seen it as well, all agree. The sequel was uncharacteristically better than the original. Plenty of action, very good story and keeps you on the edge of your seat. No, it's not a great film destined for fame, but it's certainly a good fun film to watch. Several of us saw it a second time and liked it as much all over again.
