Movie Reviews of NaqoyqatsiMovie Review: Part three of a superb statement about life on earth Summary: 5 Stars
Godfrey Reggio, Philippe Glass and Ron Fricke made a superb trilogy about human life on earth. It took them 20 years to complete their project! Only using images and (specially composed) music they are able to give an account on life on the northern hemisphere (Koyaanisqatsi), the southern hemisphere (powaqqatsi) and the synthesis of both (naqoyqatsi). I have never seen a better film without words in conveying a universal message without making a judgement!
Movie Review: THE DVD IS INDEED MASTERED CORRECTLY. Summary: 5 Stars
In an attempt to clear up the issue - the DVD for Naqoyqatsi is masterd correctly. Mr. Reggio intended the image to be "squeezed" into a 16X9 format regardless of the venue (TV, movie theater, etc.) This was a creative decision made in the first weeks of the production. Rest assured that the manner in which the DVD presents the film is IDENTICLE to the way it appears on a movie screen projected from the film master. I hope you enjoy the film.
Movie Review: The Beauty of the Beast Summary: 5 Stars
With musical score by Philip Glass and YoYo Ma, and imagery from both historical and contemporary industrial and military sources, this film leads one into an altered state of awareness. With no story line, no dialog, just relentlessly progressing images and music, one is led through a sensory/psychological journey that can be frightening as well as thrilling. I strongly recommend it, along with the other two films in the trilogy.
Movie Review: hotsie-totsie another qatsi!! Summary: 5 Stars
My wife and I were very pleased with the third part of the qatsi triology. (We were very disappointed with Powaqqatsi.) Naqoyqatsi is as good as Koyaanisqatsi, made 25 years ago, and similar in many respects, yet totally different. Advances in computing and imaging technology have produced a series of stunning and hypnotizing new imagery. Reggio's commentary in the added features section is also excellent.
Movie Review: Amazing. Summary: 5 Stars
If you have not watched this yet and have any inclination to, PLEASE DO. It is not a "movie with a plot" so to speak, but a film/documentation of society and culture. I love it. (But watch Kooyanisqatsi first. ) In comparison, it is what Kooyannisqatsi would have been had it been made 20 years later. I think it's brilliant.
