Movie Reviews of NYPD Blue - Season 1

Movie Review: The previous reviewer can't spell and has no taste.
Summary: 5 Stars

NYPD Blue was a groundbreaking drama that aired on ABC from 1993 to 2005. The acting was first-rate, especially by David Caruso, Dennis Franz, and Amy Brenneman. David Milch and Steven Bochco created a series that was for adults and, yes, it did include adult language and partial nudity. The characters were three-dimensional and complex, not cardboard, as the last reviewer stated. The ratings (not "rateings") were excellent for the pilot episode, and they continued to stay strong throughout season one. Many intelligent people were fans of this series, and to call anyone who watched the series "stupid" simply shows how limited the previous reviewer's intelligence really is. NYPD Blue was a quality drama series, not junk. Maybe the previous reviewer should review a DVD on how to spell correctly instead of an excellent police drama.

Movie Review: Yorkshire Reg
Summary: 5 Stars

Well I received my season one NYPD DVD's this morning, watched 2 episodes already, I'm in TV heaven, it does'nt come any better than this(thats TV of course!).I thought Hill Street was the best but I think Bochco & co surpassed themselves with this, like other reveiwers I think the departure of David Caruso as the King of cool John Kelly was a big blow, (but to be fair Jimmy Smits as Bobby Simone in series 2 was a great replacement)
Dennis Franz is brilliant as Andy Sipowicz, but the shows greatess asset is its humanity, you care about the characters because you know they care, something clearly lacking in many movies and TV shows today, anyway starting to get a bit deep so better say goodbye to our American cousins, keep making great shows!

Movie Review: Excellent but strangely edited
Summary: 5 Stars

Everyone who enjoys a good tv show knows NYPD Blue is the best of the best. I'm glad after that after a long period we finally can buy season 3+4 as I allready thought only season 1+2 were to be released on DVD. Watching season one thing was strange. In all episodes the Word trade center has disapeared! Season one took place in 1993 and I know for sure the two towers were still in many, many scenes. By looking you can see some black screens of a few parts of a second where it used to be. I know Sept. 11th was a huge tragedy, but is seems rediculous to leave this out of a show that was taped almost ten years ago. The clothes and cars are also from 1993 right? This is the only "complaint" about this all. For the rest? It's worth every penny!

Movie Review: One of TV'S Finest.
Summary: 5 Stars

One of the best cop shows in history of television. This show ranks right up there with the Law & Order franchise. What made this show really great was the way the characters were realistically portrayed. They weren't the usual squeaky clean characters we see from CSI, Bones or Crossing Jordan. In NYPD Blue we emphatize with the squad when we see the frustration in the faces and even in the gestures of the Detectives when a perp is giving them the run around or a when an incompetent squad sergeant is appointed ( Eddie Gibson )or when a fellow detective screws up a case. This was the strength of the show the ability to draw empathy from the audience. I read here Season 4 is slated for a June release. I hope Season 5 quickly follows.

Movie Review: Caruso Reigns Supreme in Season One
Summary: 5 Stars

There's little argument that the first season of producer Steven Bochco's "NYPD Blue" (1993-94) was the best, with a top-notch ensemble headed by David Caruso and Dennis Franz. Fueled by excellent writing and direction, Caruso's impassioned performance as Detective John Kelly ignited the small screen. The actor's abrupt exit at the beginning of Season Two left an indelible void that could not be filled by Jimmy Smits, Rick Schroder or anyone else. "NYPD Blue" never fully recovered from Caruso's departure, though Franz's strong presence remained integral to the series' longevity. This six-DVD set justifies the show's status as a landmark in television drama - at least for one remarkable season.
