Movie Reviews of My Super Ex-GirlfriendMovie Review: It's worth giving a try Summary: 4 Stars
Luke Wilson plays a business man who takes a chance one day by asking out a hot Librarian looking woman (Uma Thurman) on the subway. Once they they hit it off she decides to reveal that she's the popular woman super heroe that fights crime in NY City. He thinks that's a great turn-on until she turns to be the extremely jealous type. Which isn't good for him since she can man handle him. He soon starts to go with his feelings for his cute co-worker (Anna Faris) which pisses off Thurman even more. I mean she already went psycho after he broke-up with her as it is.
The result is a goofy and fun movie with both Uma Thurman and the under-rated Luke Wilson in good comic form. Not everything in the movie works but you can't deny that you were entertained when it's over. I mean the shark tossing scene is pretty damn funny even if the shark looks too cartoonish. Despite some minor violence and sex jokes this is still a pretty harmless and cute film. It deserved a better release as well because I think it's one of the better summer releases from this year. It's certainly better than any of the usual romantic comedies. I mean the sad part is that more people probably saw Failure to Launch than they seen this movie.
Movie Review: cheesy entertainment Summary: 4 Stars
This is probably one of the cheesiest storylines you could ever have for a movie. Unfotunately it's also not a movie children should see, because it focuses heavily on sex scenes. Not necessarily showing them, but talking about it quite often, that kids would get curious and ask the parents questions about the subject. Not a good idea.
I don't know what kind of person would mostly be interested in watching a superhero woman going around the city and saving the people from trouble... oh wait, yeah I do- teenagers. Lots and lots of teenagers.
You'll recognize some of the stars from the movie from the hit TV show the Office.
I admit I laughed at some of the exaggerated scenes, such as the superwoman and her boyfriend who tried to "do it" way up high in the air above the city, and the scenes that involved the ultra-jealous (and physically powerful) superhero woman getting all upset when asking her boyfriend questions (and of course the boyfriend becoming increasingly nervous because he was aware that ticking her off would be the WORST thing someone could do).
It's a comedy movie in the end that's just greatly exaggerated for a little excitement.
Movie Review: Funny spoof on super hero theme Summary: 4 Stars
The movie deals with a guy (Luke Wilson) who dates a woman (Uma Thurman) who is a super heroine in disguise. She goes around fighting crime. She obtains super hero powers by coming into contact with a meteorite. The story does not get really funny and interesting until the guy tries to break up with the super powered girlfriend. He incurs her wrath when he tells her that he wants out of their relationship. In desperation, he goes to a former acquaintance of hers (Eddie Izzard) for assistance. The movie has quite a few funny sequences when he is dating her. There are some uses of profanity, but it is not excessive. There are scenes of implied sex, so the movie may not suitable for preteen viewers. There is only one nude scene and it involves the male character. The violent scenes are not graphic and actually a bit cartoonish. Anna Faris and Wanda Sykes provide the coworker support in the movie. The buddy character is played by Rainn Wilson who stars in "the office" on NBC. It is a cute and amusing romantic comedy. I thought it was a much better super hero movie than the "Return of Superman" which came out that same year.
Movie Review: G-Girl kicks butt! Summary: 4 Stars
This was a surprise. I didn't go to watch it with any expectations about being wowed.
That being said, it turned out to be an enjoyable movie that was easy to watch and entertaining.
Uma Thurman is excellant as the nuerotic super heroine who has problems dating. When she meets who she thinks is the man of her dreams she becomes very possessive of him. In the end she bestows her secret, tells him her secret identity and swears him to silence.
The only problem is, hes gone a little off the idea of being her fella, he actually rather likes someone who he has worked with for years but has never had the guts to tell her.
For every super hero theres a super villan. The nice twist in this story is that the super villan is secretly madly in love with her and has been since high school.
Theres some uproariously funny scenes where G-Girl is venting her jilted aggression, including throwing a live shark through a window at him.
He has no choice but to help the super villan take her powers, this is the only way he will ever be safe again.
Some really awesome fight scenes.
A good movie.
Movie Review: Original, Funny, Bawdy, Re-watchable Summary: 4 Stars
I've enjoyed Luke Wilson in other movies and this one looked funny so I gave it a try. And I'm glad I did. It's a real hoot. It gives an interesting perspective on how inconvenient a superhero's life can be; I can't blame Uma for being annoyed that her dinner has to be interrupted so much of the time. Luke brings that pragmatic, likable persona to this role. His real love interest does a good job, as does Uma's nemesis, who turns out to be surprisingly likable. The movie has a great ending that will leave you with a laugh and feeling good. Nice use of music to underscore the various moods.
I took one star off because Uma's anger at Luke was understandable, but some of the things she did for revenge were over the top. I agree with another reviewer that the shark stunt was potentially deadly and wasn't in keeping with her superhero character. The car in orbit was hilarious. I would have liked to see her use her super strength and flight to other imaginative non-deadly forms of revenge.
This romantic comedy is an enjoyable piece of fluff that isn't for kids but will make you laugh out loud.
