Movie Review: Just Fun to Watch Summary: 4 Stars
This movie came out in 1985 during the blitz of teen-age comedies that happened in the early and mid 80's. With the exception of Dennis Hopper, the cast is not your typical A list group. But imho, that's what it makes it fun.
We start out with a UFO that crash lands in the 1950's out in the Arizona desert. The government covers it up and 30 years later a high school student finds the engine to the craft and tries to pawn it off as his science project, only to find out that this engine can cause time and space to get mixed up and the high school gets turned into a place full of cave men, gladiators, Vietnam war continuing and even some mutants from the post apocalypse.
John Stockwell is the star who finds the engine. Danielle Von Zerneck plays the love interest and Fisher Stevens steals the show as the wise cracking best friend who can't stay out of trouble. Dennis Hopper is their science teacher who unlocks the mystery of the alien engine and in the end we see Mr. Hopper back from a tour of the 60's and he's wearing the same clothes he wore in Easy Rider!
No skin but plenty of non-politcally correct language which helps make the movie even funnier. If you are easily offended, then this movie is not for you. If you can laugh at yourself and just enjoy the movie for what it is, you'll be pleased. I know I was when I first saw it in 1985 and feel the same way 25 years later.
Movie Review: Don't let this happen to you! Summary: 4 Stars
It is down to the line and if you do nit come up with a good science project you can kiss you high school diploma good by. What luck a nearby abandoned military depot. You guessed it an alien engine is just waiting for the application of a little electricity.
This is what happened to a young lad, Michael Harlan (John Stockwell.) With the help of his friends he discovers new dimensions. There is time enough for adventure and time enough for love Ellie (Danielle von Zerneck.) A vortex sucks up the science teacher. And everyone is threatened. Only the original hand full of friends can curb the problem by fighting their way back in over numerous obstacles to remove the source of energy to the engine.
Can they curb the power before it is too late?
Will we ever see the science teacher again?
Movie Review: A 'gearhead' looks for something to use as his science project Summary: 4 Stars
A space-time warping object from a UFO, that was stored at an old military base, becomes Mike's (John Stockwell) science project. Atilla the Hun, dinosaurs, weird aliens (no not illegal aliens), and futuristic weapons mingle at the high school.
By today's standards for special effects, this movie doesn't rate that highly, but 25 years ago it was pretty good! Dennis Hopper is the 60's hip science teacher that is demanding that John Stockwell (Mike), a Pontiac GTO fanatic, move out of his mechanical comfort zone and do something original.
Over all... it was a fun flick back then and it is still fun to watch!
