Movie Reviews of My Mother's CastleMovie Review: A Simple, Engaging tale from France 100 years ago Summary: 4 Stars
A light-hearted story of a French family -- school-teacher father, resolute mother and several young kids -- and their annual trek across the country-side of southern France to their summer retreat. They navigate through a series of picturesque obstacles and the varied characters who occupy them, Some are suitably scarey ogres, others are cheerful surprises. There are dire threats to the father's livelihood and hard-won pride, and the warm glow of success for a mother's resolve. The English sound track is fine, but the original French is a wonderful way to taste the language in a natural setting.
