Movie Reviews of My Favorite Year

Movie Review: O'Toole at his comedic best!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Most of my friends do not get as excited as I about this picture, but I have watched it at least 10 times and will watch it another 10 times.

It takes me back to the 50's when our movie heroes were so real and so important to us. We dreamed about these heroes and at times pretended to be them.

Is it believable---I do not know, but I do know that this movie, My Favorite Year, has become one of my favorite movies.

Movie Review: Funny, poignant film is a must see!
Summary: 5 Stars

The acting is superb, the plot is excellent, the dialog is sharp and witty, what more do you want! O'Toole plays an Errol Flynn like actor who is a legend as a movie star, womanizer, and alcoholic. One his fans, a young writer for an early live comedy show modelled after Cid Cesar's show, decides to bring the alcoholic movie star on to the show.

Worth owning - I have seen it a dozen times and never tire of it.

Movie Review: Classic madcap comedy
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a madcap comedy pulled off by the very talented Peter O'Toole, who plays a has-been, imbibing, womanizing matinee idol. The story is told from the point-of-view of a television show script writer forced to babysit his fallen hero while he is in town for a television appearance. Full of quotable lines (just check out the reviews), this movie is a winner for anyone who wants to relive the early days of television.

Movie Review: "He's an actor, Ma, not a river."
Summary: 5 Stars

This has always been one of my favorite little movies from the '80s. Charming, funny, romantic, wonderfully written, acted and directed -- a pure joy from beginning to end. And I was surprised: for a DVD released in 2002, it looked great on my 42" 1080p HDTV (I'm sure if it ever makes it to Blu-Ray it'll look even better). Now if only they would release a widescreen version of "Arthur"...

Movie Review: My Favorite Year
Summary: 5 Stars

Actor Richard Benjamin goes behind the camera in this warm, side-splitting recreation of 1950's New York and the insane world of live television. O'Toole is tailor-made for a juicy comic role modeled on Errol Flynn, and Joseph Bologna does a wonderful Sid Caesar-ish turn as the caustic Kaiser. A genuine crowd pleaser, particularly for anyone interested in the period and the medium.
