Movie Reviews of My Favorite Year

Movie Review: Guilty pleasure never so good!
Summary: 5 Stars

This a rare gem of a movie. You have one of the great English actors of our time, playing to his past exploits ( Richard Burton, Peter Finch and Peter O'Toole - all great actors, but also legendary drinkers). Getting to play an Erell Flynn ( I know I misspelled his first name I appologize)type movie hero was brillant casting. Mark Lynn Baker's character in this movie is to keep the O' toole character out of trouble to be on a "Your show of show" type program. It's comedy, it's a coming to terms with yourself and it's a hell of a good movie!

Movie Review: An Overlooked Classic
Summary: 5 Stars

Terrific story line, beautifully shot, and Peter O'Toole has never been better. I strongly believe one of the best scenes ever filmed was of O'Toole's character dancing with the lady celebrating her 40th anniversary. No words had to be spoken, the look in her eyes (perhaps remembering her youth and how she had dreamed of dancing with this film star of yesteryear?), the loving gaze from O'Toole which made her feel that nobody else existed, and the orchestra playing "How High the Moon" ...

It doesn't get much better than this.

Movie Review: "Tongue... Death!"
Summary: 5 Stars

"The rest of us are here to write Professional Show Business Comedy."
"Somebody parked in my spot."
"In a few minutes, I shall require a diversion."
"You said that Carl? What a guy!"
"Welcome to our humble chapeau."
"Ma, he's not a river."
"Of course he's beneath us. He's an actor!"
"Twice they served tongue, twice the opening sketch died."
"Listen to this, he thinks he's in the wrong costume."
"What the hell's happening!"
"Oh God, this makes me happy."

Movie Review: Great Acting
Summary: 5 Stars

I agree with most of the other reviewers regarding--
--needs better transfer
--great acting
--great story
--needs more extras on DVD

All that aside, this is one of the greatest comedies of the last 20 years. The acting is superb. Mark Linn-Baker does the best job of his career in this. Peter O'Toole is exceptional and really makes the film. Richard Benjamin has never come up to this one. This is a must for anyone's DVD collection.

Movie Review: IF YOU WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED...
Summary: 5 Stars

...BUY this DVD immediately!
Peter O'Toole plays a better "drunk" than Dudley Moore's "Arthur," for starters. But there is Heart and SOUL to this film--a delightful homage to the days of live TV...and to ANYONE who has had a childhood idol...if YOU fall into this category, you'll be instantly warmed to the main characters, and their relatives..(!)--all played by veteran TV, stage, and film veterans. A wonderful way to spend an evening! Period.
