Movie Reviews of My Favorite Wife

Movie Review: Marilyn Monroe was also Ellen!
Summary: 4 Stars

Just a piece of trivia here. Some have already mentioned the remake made in 1963 starring Doris Day. Well, few know that the pic Marilyn Monroe was shooting when she died was meant to be this remake called "Something's got to give". The project was ill fated for obvious reasons, so after Monroe's suicide, the producers changed the title, stars and director and made "Move over darling" a year after. If you wonder how it would have come out had Marilyn finished it, just check the DVD Marilyn Monroe Diamond collection. There's a wonderful documentary on the making of this picture and at the end, an edited version of the first 45 minutes of the movie, made with restored material. Really amazing and an interesting look on the aproach miss Monroe gave to the part.

Movie Review: Half funny, half ridiculous
Summary: 4 Stars

This is definitely screwball. Forget about anything resembling emotional reality, this movie tromps along it's own gay way.
A lot of the humor comes from the absurd manner Cary and Irene skip along in their own little la-la land of wealth, suspicion, and inzaniness. Maybe not for everyone, but Cary gives one of his classic, clueless performances.

Movie Review: REMAKE of : Somethings Got To Give
Summary: 3 Stars

Just wanted to be sure that you all knew that this film is actually a REMAKE!
Yep. Marilyn Monroe was taken from us and the film she was involved with at the time was called SOMETHINGS GOT TO GIVE. If youd like to see clips of HER playing the wife and DEAN MARTIN playing the husband you can catch a few on youtube.
I really wish theyd release some sort of collection that pulls what they did accomplish together.. the scenes are funny, emotional and Marilyn actually did the first ever nude scene in hollywood during that filming.
It would have been a great hit!
........However since Marilyn passed away they later found 2 others to make the film. Dean did not want to do it without Marilyn. Cary Grant stepped in. Then they changed the script a bit as Irene is not exactly up to doing what Marilyn would.. and there you have it. I think this film would have been much better had they asked the actor and actress to do what the first script asked and stayed with the SOMETHINGS GOT TO GIVE humor and emotion... but they didnt...
I would have loved to see SGTG... I think we all would.

Movie Review: Disappointed
Summary: 3 Stars

After seeing "Move Over Darling" I was for sure that "My Favorite Wife" would be twice as good because, you know it's the orginal. Irene Dunne and Cary Grant star in this movie (Cary Grant is one of my favorite actors). The acting seems a little fake...like when the wife comes home her mother-in-law is semi shocked. And in my opinion this movie is less funny than the remake. Again I feel like there's not enough emotion...for goodness sakes she's been on an island for 7 years!!! And I got frustrated at the end when Irene is so mean to Cary...even though he does look pretty funny in that costume (don't wanna give it away). But the end seemed to drag out way too long unlike "Move Over Darling". This movie is ok for Cary's movies but for a better version see the remake with Doris Day and James Garner.

Movie Review: A farce unbecoming Grant and Dunne
Summary: 3 Stars

The scene I remember expecially in this movie is the sister scene with the Dunne and Grant. Irene Dunne hams it up so much that it becomes unbelievable and silly. If that is what the cast and crew wanted, then they succeeded. Unfortunately, there is an audience out here.
