Movie Reviews of My Favorite WifeMovie Review: Brilliant screwball comedy Summary: 5 Stars
Cary Grant has his wife (Irene Dunne) declared dead, as she has been lost at sea for seven years. He marries again, but on his honeymoon, his first wife shows up, alive. So Grant has to pick a wife. To make his decision more difficult, his first wife has been marooned on an island with Randolph Scott all this time. (Scott calls her "Eve" and she calls him "Adam"). Scott walks around the whole movie with this "I've been sleeping with your wife" grin on his face. My favorite scene is when Grant has to go somewhere, but he doesn't want to leave Irene and Randy alone together.
Scott: "Well, I've been alone with your wife for seven years, I don't think another half an hour will make much of a difference." Ouch. The screwball era cracks me up.

Movie Review: Adam and Eve alone on an island for seven years Summary: 5 Stars
There was a shipwreck and Nicolas (Cary Grant) gets separated from his wife Ellen (Irene Dunne.) She was never seen again. Seven years later Nick, widower with two children and living with his mother finds love again, Bianca (Gail Patrick.)
Now it is time to start a new life with Bianca; so Nick goes to court and has Ellen legally declared dead and in the same breath marries Bianca. But wait what is this? Ellen returns that very day. The complications begin. Wait, there is more Ellen was not stranded alone on an island there was Stephen, sort of an Adam and Eve thing. The story only gets better from here.
Be sure to watch the remake of this movie "Move Over Darling" with Games Gardner and Doris Day.
Move Over Darling ~ Doris Day
Movie Review: I just love Carey Grant Summary: 5 Stars
Movies today just seem to a lot of "In your face" action, that is one of reasons that I so much enjoy older movies like "My Favorite Wife" with Carey Grant and Irene Dunne. Lawyer Nick Arden (Carey Grant) is man with a serious problem. On the day that his first wife Ellen (Irene Dunne) was declared dead and he get remarried to Bianca (Gail Patrick), Ellen shows up a live and well after being stuck on a south pacific island for the last seven years. Needless to say comedy happens as Ellen tries to reclaim her husband and family. Some viewers will relize that "Move over Darling" with Doris Day and James Garner is a remake of "My Favorite Wife" but let assure you "My Favorite Wife" is much better due the acting of both Dunne and Grant and should not be missed.
Movie Review: "Don't you think it's about time somebody started kissing somebody?" Summary: 5 Stars
Not my favorite Grant/Dunne pairing (THE AWFUL TRUTH), but still a great film mainly because of Dunne's enchanting performance.
Seven years after loosing his wife in a sinking ship a still sad Cary Grant has her legally declared dead and marries a woman who is not right for him, a few hours after the ceremony Dunne returns and tracks down Grant on his honeymoon. Then to make matters even worse he discovers that she was stuck on a tropical island for the entire seven years with hunky Randolph Scott!
The story is slower paced than say THE AWFUL TRUTH or BRINGING UP BABY and the humor at times feels a little forced, but Grant is still hilarious and Dunne completely wipes away any flaws the film has with her smile. She absolutely radiates.
Movie Review: Color? Summary: 5 Stars
The 5 stars are based on faith. I haven't actually watched this dvd or read any review about it, so this is just a speculation, but I'm quite sure the copy on this dvd will be a B&W, not a hideously colorized one. The dvd of Destination Tokyo, belonging to this same collection, includes indeed a black and white copy of the movie (according to a review I have read in the Home Theatre Forum), even though it's advertised as "format: color" in the Amazon description. I am convinced there is a mistake in the Amazon description of this dvd, and the format is B&W and not color. If someone could confirm this, the matter would be put to rest. It would be a shame if sales of this splendid dvd were to suffer because of a simple confusion like this.
