Movie Reviews of My Blue Heaven

Movie Review: A great comedy, if lacking DVD features
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a great comedy. You won't find a second disk full of director's comments or actor's remarks, or cut scenes...but you will have a very funny movie to watch.

Steve Martin is at his best, portraying a New York mobster in the witness protection program. He has been relocated to friendly, sunny southern California--"hell" as he puts it.

He's miserable until he finds a cadre of similar transplants and gets back to his gangster ways. Along the way he charms a DA, a police woman and teaches his FBI watcher that there is more to life than a boring job.

This is one of the better Steve Martin comedies, ranking up there with _Father of the Bride_ and _Planes, Trains, and Automobiles_.

Movie Review: Good Harmless Fun
Summary: 4 Stars

This movie is a very entertaining film. I never knew Rick Moranis and Steve Martin could dance Merengue. It is lighthearted, exceeds reality of the witness protection program when Martin (Antonelli) opens up a baseball park for the kids at the end of the movie - with his real name(not alias) on the stadium. But who cares. The humor is lighthearted, the plot is mushy, silly humor with two guys getting two girls in the end. The FBI agent gets the county prosecutor and the mob squealer gets the female cop. So what - it still rates good, harmless movie fun when you consider all the violence, sex and distorted realities in so many other movies out there today.

Movie Review: Just plain frickin funny
Summary: 4 Stars

Do you remember the guy who danced with Bobby McFerrin and Robin Williams in the video "Don't Worry - Be Happy"? Well he's in this movie, and he's hilarious. This movie is not a classic and I don't remember it half the time I talk about my favorite comedies, but I always enjoy it when I see it. I think Steve Martin conviced everyone to put baloney in their shoes when they made this movie so they would "feel funny" - (one of his stand-up lines). Sit back, relax, enjoy - it's funny all the way through. Oh - Bill Irwin, that's the name of the guy, and he's a real clown.

Movie Review: Sometimes I just like a movie to be fun ...
Summary: 4 Stars

... not cerebral or brilliant. This is a perfectly fun, enjoyable movie. If I'm feeling a little (or even a lot) down, the less thinking I need to do, the better. Movies are a good escape every now and then. There's some farcical, dumb stuff and lame bits, but there are a lot of truly funny moments, too. The two merengue sequences alone are terrific.

Movie Review: Eat your vedga-ta-bulls!
Summary: 4 Stars

Steve Martin gives a great performance as Vinny, the Italian hood from NYC. His accent is to a T, his food tastes are superb (you gotta see the supermarket scene!) Rick Moranis is funny in his role, but this is Martin's film. A very lovable guy even though he's a gangster. Classy, flashy, very very funny! Fughettaboutit! Great movie!
