Movie Review: Great underrated slasher flick Summary: 5 Stars
It's a shame that time has not been as good to the public's memory of this movie as it has for Friday the 13th. Goes great with friends and beer.

Movie Review: Love hurts...like a pick-axe through the heart!. Summary: 4 Stars
My Bloody Valentine is certainly a fine example of an eighties slasher film at it's best. Although the acting isn't the best, I found that the three leads were competent enough and the script gave us enough time to get to know them. In the wake of Halloween and Friday the 13th many similar slasher films were being released, most of which had little or no distinguishing features. One of the most effective and atmospheric was My Bloody Valentine, not only does it take place in Canada which was a different and unique setting at the time but it also had some really nice cinematography especially in the underground mines and has some really great set pieces that ratcheted up the suspense to a higher level. There were some genuinely creepy scenes in this film and it does work rather well. Anyway as you might know especially if you were a hardcore slasher fan that the film suffered from alot of cuts from the MPAA, there is a new edition released by Lionsgate so it is better if you get that version instead of this. For me however I'm not really concerned about this (O.K. maybe just a little), the film is still quite good despite being cut. Twenty years after a handful of brutal murders by a vengeful miner (who wears a really cool mining outfit and uses a pick-axe), the town of Valentine's Bluff decides it's time to hold a Valentine's dance. But soon hearts start showing up stuffed in candy boxes and people are being killed. Sure enough, the dance is canceled which doesn't go to well with the local people but a group of young miners and their girlfriends decide to throw the party at the mine anyway since they have nothing else to do which obviously turns out to be a huge mistake. Soon our killer is "picking" (man, am I witty! ;-)) them off one-by-one. There's also a subplot about these three characters T.J., Alex and Sarah that are caught in a love triangle and the ending had a surprising twist that was kind of neat, I couldn't figure out who the killer was and the mystery and suspense was great. The film also has some nice and brutal death scenes but like I said it's probably better if you get the uncut version cause some of this film in the paramount edition was cut to pieces. Basically, if you enjoy a good slasher flick you're guaranteed to like this one. While it isn't anything extremely remarkable, it's still very good and entertaining considering the type of film that it is. One of the best slasher films from the '80s and worth a look for horror fans.
