Movie Reviews of My Bloody Valentine 3D/2D FlipMovie Review: Just an all-around great horror thriller with heart. Summary: 5 Stars
I saw the original My Bloody Valentine in the theater back in the Eighties and I remembered it as being pretty good. I will definitely have to check it out again someday, especially after having seen this remake.
Well, when I saw this new 2009 DVD version on the shelf at one of my favorite stores, I just had to get it, and I'm glad that I did. It is every bit as good as the original, and then some.
After getting it home I first viewed the 2D version of the film because I didn't want to get too involved and distracted with the 3D effects, if you know what I mean? I wanted to enjoy the movie for the story itself, which I did immensely, even though I guessed who the killer was before it was revealed at the movies end.
Anyway, the next time I viewed it, I watched the 3D version and while the 3D wasn't the greatest, it still looked pretty good for the most part. Sure, there was some red and blue fuzzy ghostliness to it here and there, but other times the effect worked perfectly. Especially in parts like where the killer throws his pickaxe at the screen, and where the tree branch crashes through the windshield.
The thing about this movie was, regardless of the 3D, I enjoyed it even better the second time around, even though I knew how it would all play out. It was still just as suspenseful and scary the 2nd time around. And the cast was excellent, all of them. They really did a good job making you believe in and feel for these characters.
The only downside that I can give this DVD is that, like others have already described, the 3D glasses that came with it were packaged loose, which caused some slight scratches on my disk, but both sides played perfectly still.
Otherwise, this is a great horror flick that I highly recommend for a few good scares and laughs and most importantly, an excellent story and atmosphere.
Summary of My Bloody Valentine 3D/2D FlipTen years ago in the town of Harmony, an inexperienced coal miner caused an accident that trapped and killed five men and sent the only survivor, Harry Warden, into a coma. When Harry awoke, exactly one year later on Valentine?s Day, he wanted revenge and brutally murdered 22 people with a pickax before being killed himself. Now, after years of peace, something from Harmony?s dark past has returned. Wearing a miner?s mask and armed with a pickax, an unstoppable killer is on the loose. As his footsteps come ever closer, the townspeople realize in terror that it just might be Harry Warden who has found his way back.
