Movie Reviews of Mulan II

Movie Review: Fun Family Fare
Summary: 4 Stars

The story of Mulan II begins with Mulan thinking about marrying General Shang... which upsets one of Mulan's spirit guides (Mushu) so much that he decides to sabotage their relationship. Mushu is worried that he will be demoted if Mulan goes through with her plans to marry General Shang, because tradition calls for the wife's spirit guides to lose their pedestals in the household shrine at the time of marriage, meaning that they would then be subordinated to the husband's ancestors. The story moves back to Mulan and Shang, who are asked by the Emperor to provide safe passage for the Emperor's three daughters across China, so that they can be married to three princes in order to bring peace to China. Mulan and Shang travel with three trusted soldiers, who fall in love with the princesses in their care... as Mushu begins his plans to break Mulan and Shang up. Mulan II is full of jokes, songs, and an important message about following your heart. My favorite part of the film was one of the opening scenes, in which Mulan describes the importance of yin and yang in a beautiful song and dance number. This is a fun family movie, with interesting special features, too.

Movie Review: Mulan 2 - A woodie or a goodie?
Summary: 4 Stars

I AM A HUGE fan of mulan 1, and i screamed in joy when i found out that a 2ns one was out. however, i was a tad cautious because i knew that other 2nd parts of disney films were total flaps - i.e. little mermaid 2, lion king 2, peter pan 2 etc (god, how awful were they?). but when i watched mulan 2 i was so surprised! I thought the songs were absolutely excellent (but there weren't as many as in the 1st one - like the 1st one had about 8-10...i think, but this one had only 3-4; soz i cant really memba buts its approximately that), the storyline was really good (for a sequel) and the animation was surprisingly not crap! yay! there is way less kung-fu in this one, but i guess the 2nd one couldnt be a complete copy of the 1st, now, could it? It's centred much more on shang *fans face* and mulan *you go girl*. the jokes are really hilarious and i love the new characters too. look - basically i think it is as good as the 1st one in its own right - sure, sequels will neva be as good as the original, but if you liked the 1st one, you'll like this one!!

Movie Review: A worthy sequel to Mulan
Summary: 4 Stars

I am truly surprised by this direct-to-video sequel. The animation's pretty good although you won't see grand scenes like hundreds of Huns riding down the snowy mountains. The story and screenplay is quite good compared to what Disney has churned out in the past few years and stays true to the original material. It's funny yet a times much more emotional than the first film; especially when the happy couple Mulan and General Shang quarrels and fight over their differences throughout the movie. You can actually feel the tension between the lovers. With a bit of improvement, this sequel has almost the potential to be a theatrical release compared to the likes of other Disney sequels like The Lion King 2 and Little Mermaid 2. On the music side, Joel McNeely's score is truly beautiful although the late Jerry Goldsmith did a better job and the songs could have been better. Overall, i'm safe to say i can recommend this to fans of Mulan. Though it's a direct-to-video feature, this IS a true sequel to Mulan.

Movie Review: I was pleasantly surprised
Summary: 4 Stars

I don't think Disney has actually done a decent sequel except for the third Aladdin and Return to Neverland so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw Mulan II. Sure it's not up to parr with the original but when direct to video sequels are concerned I don't think it's expected to be. The story of Mulan II focuses on whatever happened to the three soldiers. Mulan and Shang have to save China (yet again :) ) by taking the Emperor's three daughters to their future husbands. Along the way the princesses, predictably, fall in love with the three soldiers. Most of the voices are done by the same people which I found very nice. There are some quite touching scenes in the movie although I would have to agree with other reviewers in saying the songs weren't that memorable. Overall I thought Disney did well.

Movie Review: Mushu's back, baby!
Summary: 4 Stars

In Mulan II Mulan and Shang must, for the sake of peace, accompany three Chinese princesses to arranged marriages. On the journey Mulan begins to doubt the mission. Off course she doesn't wish for war, but isn't love worth protecting as well?

The story of Mulan II is a bit weak, but unlike many other Disney sequels the drawings is almost as good as the first movie. There are some nice songs and the princesses' song "I wanna be like other girls" is great. I saw this movie just before Christmas and I still know that song by heart.

I would recommend this movie to everyone. If you liked the first Mulan you'll like this one too.
