Movie Reviews of Mrs. MiniverMovie Review: Mrs. Miniver Summary: 5 Stars
In wartime England, Mrs. Miniver shows the lives a middle-class family effected by the war.
Mrs. Miniver (Greer Garson) lives a simple life with her husband and children. They are honest, hardworking people, soon to have their entire lives turned upside down by World War II. When both her husband and son enlist to fight for the British, Mrs. Miniver is left to face the homefront by herself with her younger two children. A strong woman, she discovers that the war is not just taking place between the soldiers, but it is a war effecting every man, woman, and child, and she does her upmost best to keep up sanctity within her home, and community. A real tear-jerker, this movie plays on your emotions like no other. You feel the loss, pride, commaraderie, relief, and hope of the characters. Wonderful performances by Greer Garson, Teresa Wright, Walter Pidgeon, Dame May Whitty, and Henry Travers.
Movie Review: More than you expect Summary: 5 Stars
It is hard to tell of the importance of this movie and skip the details. Yes the technical stuff may not be that interesting in a review like, after first choice Norma Shearer rejected the title role (as she refused to play a mother), Greer Garson was cast. The meat of the story is the action and interaction of family members. Add this to plausible plot twists and you come up with a movie that had a unique view of the sacrifices they endured during WWII. This is not some cardboard war propaganda film.
I would say to me the most moving sections were, the outcome of the Miniver Rose, unexpected war casualty, and of course as results the final church scene.

Movie Review: Mrs Miniver Summary: 5 Stars
The film, "Mrs. Miniver", is perhaps one of the best movies concerning the English in WWII. Greer Garson is the one of the best actresses of this era. Walter Pidgeon is also a consumate actor of his time. "Mrs. Miniver" was voted the best picture of the year, and was awarded six Academy Awards by the Motion Picture Academy. These reasons should be enough to recommend this movie to anyone, but the story is a wonderful and human experience concerning the innocent lives of ordinary citizens during a war that touches all, and how the English people bore the ravages of the conflict with the fabled English "stiff upper lip". A movie heartwarming for its time, but mirrors the lives of families whose sons, husbands, dads, uncles, etc. go off to any war and must cope with these same events.
Movie Review: Mrs. Miniver DVD Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of my favorite movies, and the black & white print on the DVD is pristine. This is an idealized presentation of England in the beginning of WWII, but I love the scene where the Minivers are all in their bomb shelter in the back garden, and reading "Alice In Wonderland" to their children. Very touching. I couldn't recommend this film more. The lovely actor who plays Mr. Ballard, the station master, who grows a rose he wants to name after Mrs. Miniver is so affecting; watch Mr. Ballard's face as Mrs. Miniver says how nice it is to have a rose named after one-you can see he just idolizes her. The end is both heartbreaking and uplifting. This film won best picture, best actress. best director and best supporting actress at the Academy Awards of that year. Bravo!
Movie Review: We Will Never Ever Give Up........ Summary: 5 Stars
This movie captures the essence of World War II England in the life of a typical British housewife, Mrs. Miniver. Before the war Mrs. Miniver lives an idyllic life as devoted wife, mother, well loved member of the local community. As Britian enters WWII Mrs. Miniver must accept and adapt to the changes around her, while standing firm in the resolve to "never, ever give up." Greer Garson's performance is brillant. Walter Pidgeon, Teresa Wright and Dame May Whitty are outstanding as supporting cast members. This movie was the winner of seven Oscars including best director, best actress, best supporting actress and best picture.
