Movie Reviews of Mostly MarthaMovie Review: Beautiful and perfectly understated Summary: 5 Stars
This is an excellent example of a perfectly understated movie. The story is beautiful, and it is written, acted and shot with a subtlety that elevates it head and shoulders above louder, more obvious romances. It's depth and substance meant my husband could enjoy it, too - an added bonus for a romance.
Mostly Martha should be seen by anyone who enjoys a slowly and skillfully developed story with real characters and real feeling.
Movie Review: Mostly Martha Summary: 5 Stars
"Scaramouche" has enough action, romance and color to fill ten movies, and is justly famous for featuring the longest sword duel on film, which takes place in an abandoned theater. Director George Sidney created one of the great romantic adventures at a time when the swords-and-lords genre had slipped out of favor, even honoring Lewis Stone, star of the silent original, with a bit part. This is a movie that never lets up, or lets you down.
Movie Review: Mostly Martha is Mostly Magnificent Summary: 5 Stars
I thought that "Mostly Martha" (other titles include: "Drei Sterne", and "Bella Martha") was outstanding. It showed well rounded characters, an interesting plot, a happy (though not suprising) end, and was an all around successful endeavor in film-making. I give this movie two thumbs up and suggest that everyone interested in seeing a really good film should see "Mostly Martha". Bono Appetite!
Movie Review: Sparse dialogue is better Summary: 5 Stars
Why do such wonderful movies like this need english subtitles. It's a tragedy that American moviemakers are so dollar-drived that productions like this are almost always "foreign language" films. The diagogue and subtitiles are indeed sparse, but only because the cinematography and acting are exceptional to the same degree. This movie should not be viewed with more than 2 people present, or the mood will be spoiled.
Movie Review: Mostly Martha is All Terrific Summary: 5 Stars
In foreign language flicks you always have to worry about whether the sub-titles will follow the action appropriately. In Mostly Martha the pacing is perfect. You read the lines just as they are saying them. The funny parts remain funny, the sad parts, sad. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to see a well acted, well directed, great ending movie. If you liked The Big Night, you'll LOVE Mostly Martha. Go see it!
