Movie Reviews of Mississippi Burning

Movie Review: Mississippi Burning
Summary: 5 Stars

It is my understanding there were folks in Mississippi who resented this film, saying it unfairly portrayed their state. History knows better. Blacks in that state as in other southern states endured murder, lynching, and having their homes and churches bombed or burned. The KKK was made up of "respectable citizens" who lived one way during the day and donned their hoods at night. There is a book COMING OF AGE IN MISSISSIPPI that was written by a young black girl who grew up there. She tells about the murder of her father who was walking home after working all day. He was shotgunned to death. No investigation was done, and no arrests were made. This move is one of the most powerful commentaries the deal with the terror and injustice that went on for decades. The three civil rights workers were murdered and "disappeared" on my 22nd birthday. That was a very turbulent time in our history.

Movie Review: Powerful movie, great acting
Summary: 5 Stars

This true story took place in Mississippi. Three civil rights leaders were found to be missing, and shortly thereafter the feds are sent in to solve the crime. In this movie three 'men died 'neath the Mississippi moon' ("Oxford Town" by Bob Dylan), and I have to add, from my own personal experience, my aunt died violently too in Mississippi. I saw this movie when it came out at a movie theatre in my hometown of Memphis, TN. In the row or so behind me and the friend I went with, several african-american girls sang softly the few hymns that were sung in this movie. Wow, was that moving; it made me realize that the story was all too real, and it happened in my own backyard so to speak. But funny things happen in the South as this movie reveals.

Movie Review: A finger touching a warm coal !
Summary: 5 Stars

Thsi film is deeply disturbing and since it meant the best film of that year, the film was respectfully neglacted and ignored.
The awful facts told refer to that troubled sixty decade , where the racial question was in a boiling point.
The murderers of black citizens will lead to both investigators (Hackman and Dafoe) each one with his own methods to find out the clues who carries him to the truth .
The Ku Klux Klan concerns and consequences was never best filmed since the times of The birth of a Nation of David Griffith.
Frances Mc Dormand made a glorious work in this brave and well done work of Alan Parker.
Gene Hackman performance in this picture deserved to him the Silver Medal in Berlin as best actor .

Movie Review: HUMAN RIGHTS
Summary: 5 Stars

I really like this film. It is thought provoking and entertaining at the same time. The film is fast paced and the score adds to the suspense and atmosphere of the tension that is portrayed in the subject. I would describe the film as crisp and straight to the point. The film portrays very well the racial tensions that existed at that time. I would recommend this film to anyone who is interested in human rights. The relationship between the characters played by Gene Hackman and William Dafoe is also extremely clever. I was fascinated by both characters and the way each approached the situation from totally different perspectives and struggled with their own feelings. A film to be watched more than once or twice.

Movie Review: Dark history brought to light in this powerful film
Summary: 5 Stars

I will not spend a lot of time talking about this film, but I would say if you have not seen it that you should give it a chance. One of the greatest casts ever are assembled, and if the awful reality of what happened that night does not shake you, you are not human! Hackman is great as well as Willem Defoe, just scary and mysterious and historically appealing with a dar sense of dread because it is hard to believe things like this have happened in recent times. Mississippi Burning is a movie that will frighten you to the very core.
