Movie Reviews of Miss Potter

Movie Review: MISS POTTER
Summary: 5 Stars

Miss Potter is a lovely, romantic story of the famous writer of childrens books.
I loved it. It told so much more than I would ever know about this incredible woman. It had everything, music, story and even some animation. I would say children might love it but it does have some intense emotion that they might not understand. I saw it on rental and had to have it.
I went to amazon.com because I knew it was my best chance to get it at a really good price. I did get a good price on a new (not used) dvd. Thank you AMAZON.COM. You are always my first choice when I am looking for somthing special. You always come through.
I would like to note that the seller "Josh (something) did a wonderful job of a quick response and delivery. Sorry Josh I don't have the full billing with me but I think I did already note on your site what a satisfying experience this was.
Thank you all for wonderful service. Movie lover, Dorothy

Movie Review: A movie for all "seasons"
Summary: 5 Stars

For those who have grown up reading the Peter Rabbit and friends books so beautifully told and illustrated by Beatrix Potter, this movie draws us into her Victorian world. We are enchanted. Renee Zelwigger's delightful Miss Potter is vulnerable but strong, merry but dignified and always the proper Victorian lady but determined to have her way. "You and bunnies" we exclaim with Ewan McGregor and fall every bit as in love with her as he does. The homes brimming with gardens and adorned with Christmas glitter and glow open up with the lives of their residents as the tale weaves sorrow and laughter and music from the haunting score into our own hearts. The animation of the garden creatures within the film is the touch of whimsy of which Miss Potter would approve and, indeed, would be quite"adamant". Should I mention the scenery? I enthuse beyond what even Victorian romantics would approve. Just buy this DVD, every age will find it charming.

Movie Review: REMEMBERANCES OF MY JOURNEY TO HILLTOP FARM
Summary: 5 Stars

IN 1974 I TOOK MY MOTHER AND DAUGHTERS TO VISIT HILLTOP FARM. WE FLEW FROM AMERICA TO GREAT BRITTAIN DURING THE SUMMERTIME. ONE OF OUR FONDEST MEMORIES WAS GOING ACROSS LAKE WINDEMERE ON THE LITTLE FERRY TO TRAVEL UP THE ROAD TO BEATRIX POTTERS FARM HOUSE. WHAT A TREASURE AND A PLEASURE OUR VISIT WAS. I HAD GROWN UP WITH THE LITTLE BOOKS AND HAD SAVED THEM TO READ TO MY CHILDREN,I ALSO SHARED MY MANY FIGUREINES GIVEN ME BY MY GRANDMOTHER AND A VERY CLOSE FRIEND OF THE VARIOUS CHARACTERS IN HER STORIES. AFTER ENJOYING AN AFTERNOON IN BEATRIX POTTERS MEMORY, I PURCHASED A CLOTH DRAWING OF JAMIMA PUDDLE DUCK TO EMBROIDER. I SHALL NEVER FORGET THE NOSTALGIC FEELNGS THAT CAME OVER ME AS I DROVE BACK DOWN THE HILL, BITTERSWEET, NOT WANTING TO LEAVE YET HAVING TO GO. THE ACTORS FOR EACH OF THE PARTS WERE PERFECT CHOICES, THE SHADE OF FILM/PHOTOGRAPHY WAS AN EXCELLENT CHOICE. I PURCHASED THE DVD AND WILL WATCH IT MANY MORE TIMES TO RENEW MY SPIRIT.

Movie Review: Charming movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Renee Zellweger hits all the right notes as Beatrix Potter, a single woman from an upper-class family who flaunts the customs of her day by publishing children's books and falling in love with her editor. The beginning of the movie is told by flashbacks which show that Beatrix was a precocious painter and storyteller during her childhood. As an adult, she chooses not to marry and instead she writes and illustrates children's books. Her mother never acknowledges her success, but instead worries about proprieties and social standing. When Beatrix falls in love with her editor, her parents object to the match because they deem their daughter's fiance to be beneath her socially. Much of the film is shot in England's Lake District which makes a breathtaking background for the film. Whether it is historically accurate or not, the film is charming and is highly recommended for anyone who loves Peter Rabbit and Beatrix Potter's other books.

Movie Review: A gem of a film!
Summary: 5 Stars

"Miss Potter" is that rare movie which manages to be sentimental and heartfelt without being cheesy or melodramatic. It has sad moments balanced by a happy ending and GORGEOUS panoramic views of the English countryside. Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor are adorable together, and perfect for their roles. It is a movie quite appropriate for anyone, of any age-- although it features a beloved children's book author, it is an adult movie-- but one in which "[...]" is the only word approaching profanity, and in which the single kiss that occurs is sweet and almost asexual. "Miss Potter" is clearly a romance, but it is also about a woman struggling to make a name for herself in Victorian Britain, at a time when the only acceptable role for a married woman was to BE a married woman, and when there was not much of a place for a respectable UNmarried woman in society.
All in all, a delightful movie, and one which I highly recommend.
