Movie Reviews of Miss Potter

Movie Review: Great Family Film about a Great Woman
Summary: 5 Stars

I was impressed with this film, and in the respectful assay into the life of the great Beatrix Potter. Director Chris Noonan has created a complete world here, with sweetness and heart, and a bit of fantasy, to set a scene for the wonderful Renee Zellweger to take over. Indeed, she is magnificent. The participation of Ewan McGregor and Emily Watson is a special treat, and the old dotty nanny, portrayed by Matyelok Gibbs is priceless! Also, let's all hope our mothers aren't like that as portrayed by Barbara Flynn; a very fine display of upper crust indifference. Ms. Potter was an exceptional person, a feminist without knowing it; a champion of environmental and conservationist efforts. The DVD provides insights into this woman's remarkable life and her endless imagination. I'm surprised that no one had the sense to make a film about her before. Hollywood is re-making good films badly, and there's so much out there that needs attention. Thanks, Mr. Noonan, for bringing this wonderful woman's life to film...and Ms. Zellweger was the perfect choice!

Movie Review: An Outstanding and Heart Warming Film
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent film with truly delightful characters. The most evil person in the film is not really evil -- just clueless. Rene Zellweger makes a great Potter and shows her to be ahead of her time as she opts for independence from male domination. Ewan McGregor does a good job in playing her shy suitor. This was a wonderful film that had no profanity, no nudiy, no explosions, no car crashes, and relied totally on the characters, who came across as realistic and believable. Watching Beatrix grow from a shy spinister into an independent woman in love with a man who loved her for herself was a treat to watch. True love grows by inches and this is what was shown here, so when the kiss came it was powerful and had meaning.

This is really not a guy's movie, but any guy who wants to get on the good side of girl should rent this movie because I think most women will relate to Beatrix and for the guys it is a lesson in how patience is better than haste when it comes to women. I liked the film -- my wife loved it!!

Movie Review: A wonderful family movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

I watched this movie with my eleven-year-old granddaughter, and both of us enjoyed it immensely. The acting is excellent, and the story is both humorous and sometimes sad. In other words, the screenplay does a nice job of portraying the realities of life that affect each of us today, even though the movie is set in the early 20th century.

For children, and even adults, the movie teaches about life and social mores in a bygone era, especially about the limited opportunities that were available to women at that time. Beatrix Potter was able to break down many barriers in her lifetime, and left us the wonderful gift of her books which are as beloved by children today, as during her own lifetime.

I definitely believe that many of the challenges that Beatrix faced in her lifetime are still being faced by women today. This movie portrays the triumph of Beatrix's own life story in a way that can give hope and inspiration to women both young and old, and should be shared with those that you love. A wonderful movie!

Movie Review: Wow! This is great stuff!
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow! This is great stuff. I make a living as an artist and wanted to see this movie for the first time when it is was released on DVD. The Day after it was released, nobody seemed to have it immediately available for rent.

I purchased my own copy with the idea of selling it when I was finished with it. After watching it I knew this DVD would be a permanent part of my home DVD collection. A Beautifully executed tale that I had only light familiarity with so I did not already know any spoiler information as the story unfolded.

I have not cared much for Renée Zellweger in her past films but she was fine in this movie and all the other casting was superb. Beautiful scenery and this film pushes buttons in my brain that brings my mind back to different stages of my life. The film also prompted me to wonder what special talents my pre schoolers will prove to have as they get older. Will I be able to recognize them?

This movie is definitely worth renting and I hope you find it worth owning!

Movie Review: Miss Potter Delights
Summary: 5 Stars

I wasn't sure Renee would be able to pull off the great Beatrix Potter! But I was proven wrong. She played the part brilliantly. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie with its antics of Peter Rabbit pulling off his bow, the carriage that Beatrix's Mama and Papa went to the party in, and Jemima Puddle-Duck being told off for her silliness when Norman Warne was looking at her drawing! What an imagination Beatrix had! The characters of Beatrix, Millie and Norman were wonderful. Ewan McGregor and Emily Watson were sensational as Norman and Millie Warne. A movie to inspire and send us on a journey of our imagination.

I have been fortunate enough to visit the actual Hilltop Farm in Near Sawrey and would highly recommend to any one visiting the Lake District in the UK to go and pay a visit to the home of this famous author. You can imagine in the garden that you see Peter Rabbit hopping around, or Jemima waddling along.

If you haven't seen the movie, it is one that I would highly recommend for all ages.
