Movie Review: Gifted Children should see this movie
Summary: 5 Stars
I am a recently retired elementary school teacher. I feel bright, gifted children would get a lot out of this movie. Beatrix Potter did not "fit then norm" and so it is so very often the case of gifted children. They actually often "beat up on themselves" for being different than the average person/child. I think they will identify with Beatrix's early giftedness in drawing and her intense devotion to it and her insistence to follow it. So often gifted children are trying to be "pushed" into the world's mold of average, almost as Beatrix was, and they do NOT fit into the average mold, quite the opposite , their mindS think " out of the box", very different from most people and yet it is from these gifted children and people that we get our great discoveries in all fields. Think of Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and many others who made discoveries that have greatly added to the quality of our lives. They were the persistent gifted ones who refused to be pushed by the world into the average mold ! Who would you like to do brain surgery on your brain tumor ? Personally, I'd like to have those "out of the box thinkers" be encouraged and thus they might become that brain surgeon. They are born with giftedness, let us encourage it and GIVE THEM WINGS TO FLY :)
Summary of Miss Potter
(Drama) The story of Beatrix Potter, the author of the beloved and best-selling children's book, "The Tale of Peter Rabbit", and her struggle for love, happiness and success.Miss Potter walks that fine line between charming and cloying with pleasing sure-footedness. Apple-cheeked Renee Zellweger (Bridget Jones' Diary) once again slips into a British accent to play writer/illustrator Beatrix Potter, the creator of Peter Rabbit. Potter, born into wealth, fought the disapproval of her high society mother to do something as crass as publish a book...and to fall in love with her publisher, Norman Warne (Ewan McGregor, previously teamed with Zellweger in Down With Love). Unfortunately, their love runs into something worse than upper-class stuffiness. Miss Potter skips through Potter's life a bit too briskly at times, but Zellweger's thankfully restrained performance, McGregor's infinite charm, and some beautiful shots of the English landscape keep the movie grounded and engaging. Also featuring a crackling supporting performance by Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves) as Warne's sister Millie. --Bret Fetzer
