Movie Reviews of MirrorMask

Movie Review: I adore this movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

Okay, first of all, yes the imagery and graphics are fantastic. All of them. Amazingly imaginative and just a little bit creepy in a whimsical sort of way.
Second, I notice that most of my fellow reviewers have knocked off points for this movie because the characters and the story line are rather two-dimensional. To them I have this to say: Of course they are; this is a fairytale world. Fairy tale characters and plotlines are two-dimensional and have been done a million times before--and this is WHY we love them.
So, reader, if you are looking for an amazingly complicated film full of deep insights, do not see this movie. If you want a beautiful fairy tale world something between Alice in Wonderland and The Nightmare Before Christmas: WATCH THIS MOVIE NOW!
Enjoy.

Movie Review: Up to par with "Labyrinth" and "Dark Crystal"
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this film at the Uptown independant theater in Minneapolis when it was released and my freind and I were quite blown away.I was skeptical of how the CGI would be presented, but with Dave McKegan at the helm and Niel Gaimen also on board(The two work on comics together such as "Sandman",and have done art for album covers, most notably the Death Cube K album "Disembodied") the real and created are virtually seamless! The story may not be 100% original and new,but it's familliarity helps to draw the viewer closer to the abstract world being presented.I thought some parts might be too dark and scary for children under 7 or 8.With that said,I can only hope that the McKegen/Gaimen duo create more films, testing the waters of their creativity.

Movie Review: Lacking only Muppets
Summary: 5 Stars

Reviews call Mirrormask "a demented fairy tale," and I call it one of my guilty not-so-secret secrets. I love this movie passionately, and all my friends and family and curious acquaintances think I am insane. Everyone has his or her own preferences when it comes to art, humor, story, etc, and apparently Mirrormask combines versions of each to form a concoction to suit tastes so remote (ahem, uh) esoteric (whew) that it baffles and bores my friends but delights me (I hear that there are many other people love this movie too, but I have yet to meet these kindred spirits). In my mind, the only way this movie could have been better would have been if it had actually included Muppets. I am sure Sweetums would blend right in.

Movie Review: An Absolutely Gorgeous Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Watching Mirrormask is like being immersed in the absolute best of dreams; the kind that pull us out of ourselves and makes us wonder who we really are inside. This may sound a bit cheesy, but the imagery in this movie is fascinating, and simply, just really fun to watch. Mirrormask it not a once-through movie, once you see it once, you want to see it again, the visuals are just too much for simply one go. And this is one of the great beauties of the movie: for all of the complex visual that it offers, the storyline offers the delicious contrast of being rather simple and sweet. Definitely a children's movie that really delivers.

Movie Review: MirrorMask
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is definately worth buying. I purchased the movie because the Jim Henson company was invloved in it and before they did excellent films/shows such as Farscape and the Labrynth. Although I had never seen MirrorMask before purchase, it proved to live up to the Jim Henson name. It was very beautifully made and as usual the effects were to aid the story and not for the sake of popping your eyes out like most movies. The story is very original and I doubt you will find another movie that is quite like this one. This is a kind of movie you will watch twice and then want your friends to see. Great movie, thumbs up.
