Movie Reviews of Miracle Mile

Movie Review: To fall in love the day before the earth's going to end
Summary: 2 Stars

Harry (Anthony Edwards) took 30 years to find the right girl, Julie (Mare Winningham) and in an hour he may well lose her and the world as well.

Harry meets Julie at a museum where a class full of kids are looking at dinosaurs. It's love at first sight, but Harry thinks he'll never see her again until Julie appears looking over the rim of the La Brea tarpits with him.

They're scheduled to go out on a date, but a freak accident keeps Harry sleeping. He awakens at 4:00 to go to the diner where Julie works only to answer a pay phone call and discover the world's now in WWIII.

They've got 50 minutes to catch a helocopter to take them to the North Pole. Harry's got to find Julie and get her out of there.

The scenario's entirely plausible, particularly after hearing friends' accounts of trying to get out of Houston, Texas when Hurricane Rita was coming in 2005. Ordinary citizens go to extraordinary means to save themselves and end up worsening their condition in some cases.

I won't disclose the end, but I will say it was definitely something I will never forget. I will not recommend this film for anyone who is tense or depressed, it's just too much. Still, an interesting character study, though not one I would care to see again.

Movie Review: Be Warned: NOT WIDESCREEN! Very Disappointed with MGM
Summary: 2 Stars

I agree with all of the reviews praising this terrific film. Unfortunately, I can only give 2 STARS to the DVD of this 5 STAR FILM because MGM chose NOT to present it in widescreen format. I can't really comment of the transfer because I only watched about 10 minutes being both annoyed and disappointed. Wake up, MGM! This is one film that deserves to be seen the way it was shown in theaters - WIDESCREEN. Very, very shabby treatment of a knockout movie.

Movie Review: So bad, I thought the characters deserved to die
Summary: 1 Stars

While I can understand the point of view that supports thinking this movie was good, I certainly don't. Julie can't follow any directions in terms of staying put or wandering into the store after the car goes crashing through the window. The main characters, played by Anthony Edwards and Mare Winningham, make such ridiculous and stupid mistakes, in the end I was glad they died. Hell, they may as well have closed the movie with people from the 'future' finding their bodies in the helicopter.

I guess every horror movie has you thinking that the protagonist, 'shouldn't go down that dark hall' or 'answer the phone' or 'leave their back to the opening to the room' but in the case of this movie, you just finally give up trying to hope they'll do the thing that makes any bit of sense (I do give credit to Anthony Edwards for trying to find a helicopter pilot but why would you pay the guy upfront and expect him to wait for you?). The helicopter pilot flying back for him was just not credible.

Denise Crosby's character is the only one who seems to have her head on straight, as in 'let's get out here and off to Antarctica' and pay any amount of money to make it happen.

That being said, I must confess, I had to keep watching this movie but I'd have to liken it to rubbernecking on the highway to see the car wreck. I just couldn't believe it kept getting worse.

Hey, if you want to NetFlix this or rent it, fine, but if you think you should own this for any reason other than you think it should go next to your copy of Plan 9 From Outer Space, then you should have your head examined.

Movie Review: So bad after 40 minutes we peeked at end (which was worse!)
Summary: 1 Stars

What a disappointment. I read so many positive reviews of this movie, I figured, how can I go wrong? Horrid film: lead characters that you wished would die, earnest but bad acting, implausible situations, cop killing...this movie leaves a bad taste in your mouth even during the credits at the beginning. The further you get into it, the worse it gets. After 40 minutes we kind of fast forwarded through to see if it redeemed itself, but it literally gets worse and worse (I am NOT exaggerating!). The ending is just a culmination of the whole bad package. I can console myself in that I wasted only 40 minutes of my life on this film instead of the entire hour and a half. AWFUL!!

Movie Review: Miracle Mile
Summary: 1 Stars

Bombed(No pun intended) at the box office, not a very memorable movie except for the Anti-Nuke Crowd, and it's funny to see that then and more so now they were WRONG all along,It could have been written and made differently but like most movies it's got an agenda like it's followers, Reagan Was Right and you Losers were wrong all along, you want a good Oh Gosh the Sky is falling the world is ending Movie Try Red Dawn, that was more plausible than any zany scheme a liberal could hatch. I am truly disappointed in Edwards(Revenge of the Nerds) for being in this badly acted movie. We Won the Cold War,Get over it.
