Movie Reviews of Miracle Mile

Movie Review: Works on many levels - topnotch and overlooked!
Summary: 5 Stars

This underrated 'thriller' also works as a black comedy that's easily read as an outpicturing of a young man's sexual hysteria that mushrooms (ha-ha) when he meets the girl of his dreams at the LaBrea Tar Pits in La-La-Land. It's also a chilling pic of cause-and-effect in sort of a "Don't Look Now"ish vein, but more pop and fast-paced. The production design pits red against green-blues, and it's a love poem to an evocative sector of L.A. that's most appealing at night when everyone is home or in the clubs. I've watched this little gem many times and still find many pleasures within. Get it!

Movie Review: Panic
Summary: 5 Stars

I'd like to remind you that this is an intensely dark film. It's not your typical Hollywood Lala Land bull$#@%; this is an ultimate thriller that deals with a possible apocalypse. Fear and panic slowly start to spread in the city of Los Angeles, and it's all because Harry (played by Anthony Edwards) accidentally receives a wrong number from a phone booth that signifies a nuclear war about to take place. This is one of the finest thrillers I've ever seen, and it had me waiting to see how it all ends. A word of caution, though: don't see this movie if you're REALLY depressed.

Movie Review: some flaws but worth watching
Summary: 5 Stars

The flaws: some dialogue and delivery could have been better; the shopping cart is just silly; the two gay guys from the gym make you laugh because of their hair and outfits; running around asking strangers if they know any heli pilots is also silly.
However....it is quite entertaining to watch the human race melt down as the end of the world approaches. That it begins and ends at the La Brea Tar Pits is a nice touch. The 80s style is unmistakable; who can forget the clothing and hair of that era (see above comment)? Fun stuff, in an odd way.

Movie Review: Buy this DVD
Summary: 5 Stars

Well, I know the DVD is not out yet, but, I have seen the theatrical release. Strange, depressing and offbeat. I found this film to be an epitome of my teenage life. Now later when I look back on this film and see its first person viewpoint of the end of the world I find it even more effective at depressing me. Civilized society will end before the bombs drop. A great film that has a beginning, a middle and a definite end. Watch this with a group of friends and look at their expressions when the credits roll. It will be worth "Diamonds".

Movie Review: "Maybe we'll get a direct hit"
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the most frightening movie I have ever seen, bar none. From the time the guy took the frantic wrong-number call in the phone booth, until the end, I never stopped shaking. "By Dawn's Early Light" should have been more frightening, but it wasn't, I suppose because I couldn't place myself in a jet bomber, but I sure could relate with being in a city like these characters were trapped in. First-time viewing of "The Day After" wasn't even this frightening. Close, but no cigar. I hope W has seen this one.
