Movie Reviews of Mildred Pierce (Keepcase)Movie Review: True Classic Summary: 5 Stars
True Joan Crawford classic. I ordered this movie after seeing "Mommie Dearest", which I would also recommend. This movie won Joan Crawford an academy award and while I suspect (although I do not profess to be an expert by any means) that it was awarded more for her longevity in the business rather than for a specific stellar performance, this movie does not disappoint. It has a very interesting story line, particularly in light of the "Mommie Dearest" shadow on her relationship with her own adopted daughter. In the end I would call it a true glimpse of the previous generations' "chick flick".
Movie Review: Great performance, great movie Summary: 5 Stars
I watched "Mommie Dearest" a week or so before seeing this movie and that movie showed the pressure and tension Joan Crawford was under when this movie came around to her. She was already considered a has-been and had been dumped by Mayer's studio and so it was quite a triumph when she won a best actress Oscar for this film. And well deserved it was. It's a great film about a powerful, but flawed woman/mother and what she does to keep her life and her daughters' lives bearable. One of the top 100 films ever, in my opinion, both for the performance and the story it tells.
Movie Review: My Goodness !!! Summary: 5 Stars
well it has a little bit of everything just enough to make it a great movie, no wonder Joan won an academy award for best supporting actris and 5 oscars, yeah poor mildred suffers with the loss of a child, haveing to work hard for her money, the horendous things her daughter veda says to her, divorce, married someone she is not in love with just so veda is happy,it also has a litte bit of mystery, and a murder at the begining, no I cant tell you more ,you just have to watch it to see of what I am talking about, you will see Joan Crawford at her best!! I mean it really
Movie Review: Wonderful Crime Drama! Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the best Joan Crawford movies and is terrific to boot. Joan plays a mother with an obsessive love for her older daughter. The daughter constantly rejects her and Mildred gives her just about anything she wants including the girl's choice of stepfather. Joan portrays a strong woman who goes from being impoverished with a loafing husband who doesn't work to a waitress and later a restaurant owner. A great woman's part and Joan is terrific in it. Trumps many of her movies at MGM A treat.
Movie Review: Mildred Pierce Summary: 5 Stars
Peerless Warners director Michael Curtiz creates a diabolical murder yarn. Crawford resuscitated her fading career with the driven Mildred, a part she was born to play. Blyth grates as Veda (hard for her not to), and Scott and Carson each ooze their particular brand of acid as the calculating men in Mildred's life. For a vicarious glimpse into seamy small town intrigue, you can't beat this one. Joan won Oscar.
