Movie Reviews of Michael Clayton [Blu-ray]

Movie Review: Michael Clayton
Summary: 4 Stars

`Michael Clayton' is a masterly portrayal of corporate greed and manipulations brought to justice by one man. George Clooney play Michael Clayton who is a big time law firm fixer who goes to the aid of one of the firms lawyers who has a breakdown whilst working on a corporate litigation case. This film follows what lead to the breakdown and what happens to all involved and leads to a conclusion that will leave a smile on your face as you see the corporate machinations get their comeuppance. This is probably the best role I've seen Clooney in and he really drives this film the whole way, but saying that the supporting cast is outstanding with amazing performances from Tilda Swinton and Tom Wilkinson. This is a slow starting film but it has a tense conclusion and makes for a great political thriller and one well worth checking out.

Movie Review: Entertaining movie with good acting from Clooney
Summary: 4 Stars

George Clooney plays the part of Michael Clayton very well. He's not your everyday attorney; he's the guy his firm turns to when they have a problem that needs to be taken care of quietly.

In this case, he's trying to reign in a senior partner who had a meltdown during a (filmed) deposition involving a large company whose products are harmful to the farm community. It all takes place during a planned merger and the senior partner's actions could jeopardize the merger.

So Michael Clayton is called in to "fix" things and in the process his own life is threatened. The film holds your attention because you get to see Clayton struggle with his own personal issues, while trying to do his job, which is causing him some ethical concerns as well.

The basic storyline isn't new, but the actors are believable and the story is entertaining. It's a movie worth watching.

Movie Review: Legal thriller worth a look
Summary: 4 Stars

I'll supply a short but sweet review of this film and Blu Ray release.

The movie is good. It's a legal thriller with great, great acting. I definately recommend seeing it.

The Blu Ray picture quality is exceptional - one of the best I've seen so far. Brilliant colors and rich, true black levels. The extra features is where this movie fails miserably. There are three extra scenes which you can select commentary to be on or off. The other bonus is commentary for the entire film. That's it. No featurettes, making of, nothing.

Final thoughts. It is worth a rental if you have never seen it or a purchase if you really enjoyed the film. The extras are too lean to warrant a blind buy.

Movie Review: Swinton is "wasted," eh?
Summary: 4 Stars

I just wanted to take a moment to mock the moron who reviewed this for Amazon. Tilda Swinton is "wasted in a thankless role," eh? If winning an Academy Award isn't thanks enough for an amazing performance, I don't know what more he could expect. This is one of Swinton's most genius performances, specifically BECAUSE she is playing so much against type. She's been quoted as saying she approached her character as though she (Karen) were a bad actress, which essentially she is. "Michael Clayton" is an uncommonly tight and intelligent thriller, but it's Swinton's performance that elevates it to another level.

Movie Review: Deserved more at the Oscars
Summary: 4 Stars

Now, I haven't seen all the Oscar nominated films but I really thought this was a well developed storyline with fine acting from George Clooney and the rest of the cast. The movie is complete, that is to the story comes full circle through climax to resolution, a idea that seems to be losing ground to popular films like I am Legend and Cloverfield that leave the movie-goer with an empty feeling after 2 hours. Worth picking up as a great movie, however outside of the film itself, the Blu-Ray disc lacks any special features, making-of shorts or extensive deleted or extended footage.
