Very fast shipping, everything was as described. Fantastic deal. Will definitely deal with this company again.

Movie Review: Michael: "You're a manic-depressive" Arthur: "I am Shiva the god of death"
Summary: 4 Stars

Michael Clayton (George Clooney nominated for an Oscar)fixes everything for everybody. If you're a client of his high power law firm and commit a hit & run or the firm's top lawyer Arthur Eden (Tom Wilkinson nominated for an Oscar)and drop your drawers during a deposition involving a multi-million dollar lawsuit over a pesticide, he's the janitor there to mop up the mess calming the client (Tilda Swindon)in that lawsuit. The problem is that Eden may have lost his marbles but he's crazy smart and there may be a reason for him to be concerned about the lawsuit.

Clayton is burned out. The restaurant that he saw as his escape from the legal world went belly up and his life has taken more twists and turns than a roller coaster when all he wants is straight and smooth.

A smart, well made legal drama "Michael Clayton" features a series of terrific performances. Director/writer Tony Gilroy ("The Bourne Supremacy" and the two sequels)tackles the subject with the skill worthy of a Sidney Lumet (who directed "The Verdict", "Network" and other classic films). Make no mistake this is NOT an action film like "The Bourne" series that Gilroy scripted but it has plenty of action in the drama.

Both the Blu-ray and regular DVD editions of the film look extremely good capturing the look of the film's theatrical presentation. While the surround tracks are used with subtly adding ambience and an occasional kick when there is an explosion or a brief bit of action.

The extras are a bit thin. Director/writer Gilroy and his brother editor John Gilroy provide an interesting commentary track covering everything from the inspiration for various characters to the choice to use deliberate pacing (reminiscent of Lumet's dramas) vs. a rapid cutting style and how the film builds tension by staying WITH the performers vs. cutting away.

We also get deleted scenes with optional commentary by the Gilroys that features an entire subplot revealing the casual relationship between Clayton and one of the firm's other lawyers. I was a bit surprised that we didn't get featurettes on the production of the film but what we do get isn't the usual fluff.

Movie Review: One of the best dramas of the past 10 years, average Bluray
Summary: 4 Stars

About the BluRay transfer: this is not the best release out there, partly to do with the lighting choices of the film. There's alot of dark, soft tones here, and it's a winter color palette.. ie- theres not alot of 'pop' in this movie. The opening sequence showing the interiors of offices shows alot of grain, but it clears up once the picture starts moving. I did notice the music stood out alot better against the dialogue in this release. Carter Burwell uses alot of soft organic textures in his soundscapes, and they come across alot better, here.

About the movie?
Michael Clayton is IMO the best thing Clooney ever did, and working essentially for free. His character is a man who has scraped out a modest living at a NY law firm , yet faces personal bankruptcy (a restaurant deal with his brother has collapsed, his brother fallen into drug abuse), to the irritation of the local loan sharks, and one of his best friends has had a manic depressive snap in the midst of the most expensive civil suit his firm has ever been involved in, and now this 'fixer' must set things right.
The whole thing has a 70s social commentary cinema ring to it in terms of story, but the drama itself is much more rooted in whether people face life in a childlike way or a childish way. And that when they cross paths with eachother, it's in these ways.
If you like a quiet meditative film that gets richer on repeat viewings, I recommend it.

Movie Review: Interesting yet predictable
Summary: 4 Stars

After watching the movie, I can see why it was nominated for "Best Picture"... and why it didn't win. The writing and acting were great, making the movie well worth watching. Wilkinson made you feel for his character, a lawyer defending a dirty corporation whose work - both the long, difficult hours and the very nature of it - and family troubles had taken their toll. Naturally, you root for Clooney's character, a flawed lawyer who isn't properly recognized for his work because of the type of work he does, cleaning up other people's messes. The movie demonstrates extremes of how evil a corporation can be, without beating you over the head with the message that corporations are bad. My problem with the movie is that while it is very well done and isn't your typical lawyer movie, it is still predictable. It wasn't too far into the movie before I could see the inevitable outcome, but I still wanted to see how they did it. The wonderful acting made it enjoyable beginning to end.

The "deleted scenes" included were mildly interesting but were not missed. Concerning the blu-ray presentation, the picture quality was superb and the sound crystal clear, although I wouldn't call it a good film for demonstrating the ability of blu-ray. Despite that, it's a great film for those into blu-ray looking to expand beyond all those action movies.

Movie Review: Corporate/Suspense...Great Combo!
Summary: 4 Stars

I was a bit skeptical about this movie when I first heard about it, but I finally got around to picking it up on Blu Ray. First off let me start by saying this movie is not for people who only want action, explosions, and shootouts. Ill start off with the BD details: The picture is excellent on this film, its smooth and the skin tones have a nice color and smooth texture, the outdoor scenes are very crisp...I was impressed with the picture. The sound is only 5.1 DD, this was a bit disappointing, but got the job done nonetheless. Clear highs, great voice depth, and deep lows when needed...I cant complain to much.

Now onto the movie...I will admit I sat down to watch this and figured it was gonna be slow, however its a good paced slow. I enjoyed the characters, and George Clooney did an excellent job. His position at a huge law firm requires him to be serious and quick on his toes...George does this perfectly and really convinced me.

I found myself enjoying the "thinking" throughout the entire movie, who did this, whats going on with that, it made for a very good experience! I wont give away any spoilers, since they are the best part of this movie. All in all id say this one is definitely worth checking out, you wont be disappointed.
