Movie Review: Excellent and engrossing movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I love Grisham and other similar legal thrillers, and greatly enjoyed movies like Class Action (with Gene Hackman, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, etc.), The Verdict (Paul Newman, etc.), A Civil Action (John Travolta, etc.), Runaway Jury (again with Hackman, John Cusack, etc.), And Justice for All (Al Pacino) and other similar films so it was somewhat natural that I'd like Michael Clayton. The only possible reason not to like the movie would be the fact that Clooney plays the lead character and I've grown a bit tired of him.

Michael Clayton is a great film. Well worth the time to watch. It's tense, and engrossing and will draw you into the events that unfold on the screen in front of you. 120 minutes that fly by quickly and never seem to drag.

My only complaint would be that the disc is incredibly light on extras. A total of 3 deleted scenes (6 minutes worth, give or take) and audio commentary that is pretty boring really. I'm not sure what else I was expecting, and really, as good as the film is, I don't feel like I was owed anything else... but, I wish there was more here to see.

The lack of extras make it a bit hard to recommend as a purchase, but it is most definitely worth viewing. Unbox it, buy it used, rent it, whatever. Just watch it.

Movie Review: Smart and Intense

THE MOVIE: Michael Clayton is an intricately designed film featuring some brilliant performances by George Clooney, Tom Wilkinson, and Tilda Swinton, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. This is a very dark, serious film about the moral dilemma that a senior litigator (Wilkinson) faces when he is defending an environmental company that has actually indirectly poisoned nearly five hundred people. Clooney is the law firm's "fixer" hired to sway Wilkinson from exposing the company that he is supposed to be defending. Well-drawn characters, moral ambiguity, and intense situations make Michael Clayton an original and entertaining production. One of the best films of 2008. 5/5

THE DISC: Michael Clayton has no huge action sequences but the Blu-ray disc is very pleasing to the eyes. Much of the film is dark and the contrast ratio is excellent. There are no mind-blowing visual scenes in this movie but I found no qualms with the transfer.

Movie Review: Outstanding the first viewing, and gets better
Summary: 5 Stars

I must confess that this is, in my opinion, one of the better movies made over the past five years. The writing is fantastic, the direction sure and able, and the performances by all those involved--Clooney, Swinton, Wilkinson, Pollack, et al--are spot on. I just purchased this on Blu Ray, and as I have few such discs and want to give my new player a good work out, I've watched this a half a dozen times in the past month. It keeps getting better.

While it may not be the ideal disc to showcase what the blu ray format can do, the picture quality is fantastic, right down to the salt-and-pepper stubble on Clooney's beard. Sound is also impressive; excellent stereo imaging in both the front and rear.

I recommend this movie as highly as any I have seen over the past several years. It is excellent and holds up to repeated viewing (often on the same day).

Very enjoyable, good characters, interesting plot. Even knowing the plot, I was able to watch the movie again, which is a bug plus for any movie, especially the mystery genre.
