Movie Reviews of Metalocalypse: Season 2

Movie Review: "The Metalocalypse continues..."
Summary: 5 Stars

Created by Brendon Small (Home Movies), the second season of Adult Swim's smashing Metalocalypse finds the mega-popular death metal band Dethklok recovering from being attacked, and retaliating by continuing to cause full-fledged chaos in every, way, shape, or form; even if the band members themselves are totally clueless as to the hilarious destruction they are causing. Lead singer Nathan Explosion (who is always talking in his death metal growl), inner-warring guitarists Swisgar and Toki, woman hating, Nascar promoting bassist Murderface, and drummer Pickles get into even more frequently funny, and frequently bloody and violent, mayhem in these 19 episodes. Whether it's the band getting a little too close to their body doubles, Pickles getting too much PR and his scumbag brother getting married, Dethklok becoming fashionistas, Nathan becoming governor of Florida, Toki visiting his dying father, and concluding with the band once again facing off against the ever growing (and mysterious) conspiracy against them; Metalocalypse never fails to entertain, especially if you're a heavy metal fan (especially with voicework from Cannibal Corpse's George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher, Arch Enemy's Angela Gossow, Strapping Young Lad's Devin Townsend, and the great Mike Patton). All in all, the second season of Metalocalypse is as darkly funny as you would come to expect, and here's hoping that Brendon Small and Dethklok only continue to keep pumping out more metal thrashing mad animated hilarity.

If you like Metal, _This Is Spinal Tap_, "Beavis and Butthead", the mockumentary genre, lots of death and explosions, other Adult Swim shows, brilliant writing and animation, great comedy, dark humor, buy this DVD collection now. Support quality programs on Adult Swim. They ruthlessly kill off good shows as seemingly as often as people get offed in Metalocalypse. Season 2 sees the return of characters introduced in the first series, some of whom viewers were given the impression were probably dead or gone for good. This was a pleasant surprise as is the further development of the characters. There's more to some of them than you first realize. Season 2 also continues to follow a certain strange top secret orginization monitor and cause trouble for the band. It does have me curious how they'll wrap that up. I do know this - the concluding episodes of seasons 1 and 2 are so kick *** they leave you wanting more.

Movie Review: A great show for metalheads and non-metalheads alike.
Summary: 5 Stars

The second season started off a bit slow, with the band members seeming almost like caricatures of themselves from the first season rather than of extreme metal musicians, but it quickly picked back up and went full strength until the end. Looking forward to season 3.

This is a hilarious show for everyone; metalheads of every degree will love the references to their favorite bands and highlights of the history of metal, both obscure and blatant (I'll admit I had to look up a few.) Non-metalheads can still appreciate the lighter side of extreme metal and the musicians' obsession with music, death, and all that is brutal. Everyone should be able to enjoy the fun the series pokes at the ridiculous side of the genre, and it sure does get ridiculous. Voice acting by some big names in music as well as an assortment of celebrities adds a nice touch to the series.

Movie Review: Brilliant!
Summary: 5 Stars

This show is absolutely fantastic. It's funny, exciting, incredibly detailed, has good plots and character development, and of course it has original music which is some of the best heavy metal available in this day & age.

Season 2 is even better than season 1, and it really seems like the creators are starting to hit their stride. The music and special effects are better-developed, the jokes are funnier, and the episodes have better plots.

I have watched all of the episodes at least 3 times, and now I am trying to get my friends to watch them because they're so good. I have been very happy with this DVD set! I hope they keep producing new episodes of Metalocalypse for many years.
